A Message From Chris

I would like to wish everyone a happy Hospital Week. Starting today, Monday, May 8, through this Saturday, May 14, we recognize the hardworking people that make up Houston Methodist Sugar Land. Every department, every role, every individual: we cannot function without you and are grateful for you. The last two years have been an incredibly challenging time. I thank you for the hard work and sacrifices all of you have made to help get us through and give unparalleled care to our patients. I am excited that events around the hospital are in-person again this year. There is a lot in store for you to do this week, from refreshments to meals and giveaways. It is a small expression of the gratitude we have for the entire Sugar Land team.

Nurses Week International Parade

Thank you to everyone who participated in the International Parade on Friday. It was a wonderful way to cap off Nurses Week and celebrate the wonderful cultures and countries that make up the HMSL staff. More photos are to come and there is a full Facebook Live available to watch in Chris' Corner if you were unable to attend.

March of Dimes March for Babies

Thank you to all who attended the March for Babies at Constellation Field. HMSL raised more than $15,000 this year for this important cause. A huge thanks and kudos to Cristina Martin and Michelle Smith for your hard work on this fundraiser. Congratulations to those who won parking spots and gift baskets in our raffles.

Cultural Celebrations in May

This month is designated as an awareness month for several cultural heritage observances:

Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month: A celebration of the Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islander Americans who have enriched the history and culture of our country.

Haitian Heritage Month: Honors the island country’s rich culture, distinctive art and unique traditions.

Jewish American Heritage Month: Recognizes the generations of Jewish Americans who have shaped our history through their leadership, talents and achievements.

Military Appreciation Month:. Provides an opportunity to recognize and say “thank you” to the members of the U.S. Armed Forces for their sacrifice and dedication to our country.

Taking Care of Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Houston Methodist offers mental health services to staff, including 10 free sessions with a licensed professional for employees and their immediate family members through our Employee Assistance Program. More information is available here.

Oncology Nurses Month

During the month of May, we celebrate the work of oncology nurses. They serve in a variety of roles in our hospital and are an integral part of the compassionate care our cancer patients receive at Sugar Land. From infusion nurses, to navigators, and all those in between, we honor you. Read more about the work they do here, and other professions celebrating this month.

PATIENT COMPLIMENTS

From a Main 4 West Patient: "The entire staff, from start to finish was great. Some of the staff that I can remember were Neima, Flor, Sharon, & Maria. The nurse that pushed the wheelchair to our car was kind and caring. Overall it was a great experience."

From a Main 5 East Patient: "Abby, Christina, ER nurse Derrick, and Jenn were excellent care staff. All doctors answered my questions in language I could understand."

From a Childbirth Center Patient: "Nurse Vivana and Maryan were so caring and explained everything in detail. Overall it was good experience with nurses, doctors and support provided in the hospital."
