Thursday Edition
Good morning, members, and happy Thursday to you all! We hope you are all having a fantastic day so far. I (Vella) am particularly excited today because it's my partner's birthday. I'm just so thankful for this date - it's a reminder of how lucky I am to have found such a kind, hardworking, and wonderful woman to spend my life with. I think that's what birthdays are all about—just taking a moment to appreciate the people we love. So to my partner and rock, CJ, happy birthday, and thank you for existing! 🥹 I actually have a little request for all of our members today. If you could all take a moment to call or text someone you love today and tell them how much you appreciate them, I would be eternally grateful. I think it would make a world of difference to them and you. ☺️
Anyway, on to today's newsletter!
As always, we have a packed lineup for you today, so let's get straight to it, shall we? First, let’s jog our memories on yesterday’s riddle. What was it again?
What is more useful when it is broken?
Well? The answer, of course, is an egg! We also accepted those who answered glow stick, fire alarm, a record, good news, a code, a piggy bank, and a bad habit! Whew! Aren’t you all just so clever? As expected, a ton of you got the answer correct! And you know what that means, right? You get a shout-out! So stick around, and you’ll find a shout-out waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next on the agenda for today, it’s time to share with you a Fascinating Fact!
Did you know that sea otters hold hands when they sleep? It's true! Sea otters spend most of their time in the water, but when they want to take a nap, they often float on their backs and hold hands with their fellow otters, so they don’t drift away from each other. Aww! Isn’t that just the cutest thing you’ve ever heard?
And now, without further ado, let's take a look at what's happening in Australia and around the world today.
-
Good news! Woolworths has announced a major change that could save you money on your next shop!

-
‘Is this for real?’ A Woolworths shopper was furious after noticing an extraordinary price rise on a popular kitchen staple.
-
The festive season is upon us, and ALDI is getting into the holiday spirit by bringing back a 'cracker' of a fan-favourite product...
-
Do you dread doing laundry? If so, there is a new laundry gadget that is sure to make your life easier, and customers are calling it 'life-changing'.
-

-
Tick season is in full swing, and tick antitoxin serums are in high demand. However, vets have warned of a national shortage of the life-saving serum, which could leave your pets at risk.
-

-
And finally, we have another hilarious joke from @Skipton that is sure to leave you in stitches!
How's that for a wrap on today's news, ladies and gentlemen? Not bad for a Thursday, eh? But we're not done yet! We have plenty more in store for you, including some fond childhood memories from @chriswillis in our 'Yesterday's Australia' segment. We also have a stunning 'Picture of the day' brought to you by member @Oldino. It's a photo of an amazing phenomenon and you won't want to miss it!
If that's not enough, how about a game or two? Check out our Word Pairs and Abbreviation Game. Of course, we also have our classic games, including Word Association Game, Rearrange, Add or Subtract Word Game! Keep a Word, Drop a Word Game, and Can you name 5? As well as our Sudoku puzzles, OzGrid and OzWord. And our card games, including Solitaire and Blackjack.

As always, members, stay safe and happy reading!

Today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment is thanks to @chriswillis. ‘I am 68 years young & have so many wonderful childhood memories. In the 1950s & 1960s, families did not have air conditioning. On hot nights, all the families would sleep on the front or back lawns, as it was cooler than sleeping in their homes. They would chat with each other. There was no crime, and people trusted & respected people back in those days. It is such a shame, in these times, some people do not trust & respect other people or their property.
WE DID LIVE IN VERY GOOD TIMES!’
How times have changed. Now, people would never dream of sleeping outside on their front lawns! It must have been so lovely for families to come together and enjoy the cooler evening air. It would be great to bring back some of these old traditions, don’t you think? Thank you for sharing this lovely memory with us, Chris!

On February 12, 1851, a prospector discovered flecks of gold in a waterhole near Bathurst, New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Soon, even more gold was found in what would become the neighbouring state of Victoria. This began the Australian Gold Rush, which profoundly impacted the country's national identity.
