A Run Fueled by Purpose

On November 22, the Black and Missing Foundation was honored to be present at the Philadelphia Marathon, where compassion and endurance came together for a powerful cause. This year, Dan O'Toole laced up his running shoes not just to cross the finish line, but to help advance our mission of bringing visibility to missing persons of color.

Dan ran with purpose — and he didn't run alone. With the unwavering support of his family and the generosity of friends, colleagues, and community members, his marathon fundraiser became a powerful collective effort. Together, they helped raise $57,171, showing what's possible when a community rallies around a mission that matters.

Honoring Purpose: BAMFI Receives WABJ Excellence in Communications Award

At the Washington Association of Black Journalists' (WABJ) 50th anniversary celebration on November 8, held at the Embassy of France, BAMFI's Co-Founder Natalie Wilson was honored with the Excellence in Communications Award — a recognition deeply rooted in purpose and advocacy.

In Natalie's acceptance remarks, the heart of our mission rang clear:

"My journey in communications has always been about purpose. When someone from our community goes missing, the coverage doesn’t follow — and it's heartbreaking that I even have to pitch a missing person. Because of your coverage, someone was found. A family got answers. Or justice was finally served. That's the power of the press."

This award is not just an honor — it is a reminder that visibility saves lives, and that the work must continue.
