The 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting offered tremendous hope and progress for treating many types of cancer, including EGFR+ non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Developing a TKI for non-classical EGFR
mutations
Scientists aim to improve treatment options for patients with both “classical” and “non-classical” EGFR mutations with the development of silevertinib, a fourth-generation EGFR-targeted TKI. The results of a phase 2 study testing this treatment reported promising results at the ASCO meeting.
Building a new first-line option for NSCLC with EGFR exon 20 insertions
NSCLC with EGFR exon 20 insertions have historically been harder to treat with standard EGFR-targeted medicines, leaving chemotherapy as a common initial treatment. Sunvozertinib, a TKI, has received accelerated approval by the FDA for treating patients with advanced NSCLC with EGFR exon 20 insertions after initial treatment. Researchers at the ASCO meeting presented promising results from a study looking at the effects of sunvozertinib as a first-line treatment.
The annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) conference offered opportunities to recognize the incredible patient advocacy in the EGFR+ lung cancer community while learning about research progress.

In addition to the impactful lung cancer science presented at the meeting, Jill Feldman, co-founder of the EGFR Resisters, was honored with the 2026 AACR Distinguished Patient Advocacy and Engagement Award.
