Thursday Edition
Good morning, gorgeous members! Welcome to another Thursday edition of the SDC newsletter! How are you all doing today? I (Vella) hope this newsletter puts a smile on your dial! Let me see those happy faces! Before we get into the nitty-gritty of today’s news, I have a request for you all. Can you spare a moment today to reach out to someone in your life to let them know they are valued and loved? We all need to hear that sometimes, and it's a great way to spread positivity. Because we all need a reminder sometimes that we are worthy and capable of achieving our goals and living our best lives.
A quick story time: I got a text from my partner this morning that said 'Good morning, gorgeous', and it made me smile from ear to ear. Aside from the fact that it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, I needed that reminder today. I've been feeling kind of insecure lately with everything that's going on in the world, and it reminded me that there's someone out there who sees beauty, strength, and potential in a simple girl like me. It’s messages like these that can make a difference. So, why not send one to someone today and make their day? You never know how much it’ll mean to them and it costs nothing.
Okay, enough of my blabbering. Let's get to today’s newsletter. First things first, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s tricky riddle. For those of you who don't remember, the riddle goes:
Four letters form me quite complete, as all who breathe do show; reversed, you'll find I am the seat of infamy and woe. Transposed, you'll see I'm base and mean, again of Jewish race; transposed once more, I oft am seen to hide a lovely face. What are the five words?
Did you get it? The answer is live, evil, vile, Levi, veil. Wow, that was a tough one, wasn't it? A poetic one at that. But a few of you got it correct! So stick around, and you'll find a shout-out waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next on the agenda for today, it's time to share a Fascinating Fact!
Did you know that the first food grown and harvested in space was a crop of ‘Outredgeous’ red romaine lettuce? In 2015, astronauts on the International Space Station harvested the lettuce, which was grown for 15 months with a system called Veg-01, which uses red, blue, and green LED lights to grow plants in a small space. The astronauts only ate half of the lettuce; the other half was frozen and sent back to Earth for scientific analysis. How cool is that?
Oh, and one last thing from me before we get to the news. Are you looking for how you can apply for a government-issued seniors card? Look no further! Check out our ultimate guide here, which will take you through the process step-by-step.

Oh, and did you know that Health Insurers are increasing their premiums by an average of 2.90% on April 1? Although that doesn’t seem like a ‘large’ increase, for an Aussie over the age of 65 that’s an additional $167 per year for their health cover. It’s worse if you’re with one of the ‘Big 5 Funds’ - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - you could be paying a whopping $194
more per year for the exact same health cover. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Compare and save on your health insurance before April 1 here.*
Also, come check out our 2023 SDC Predictions Bingo and see if your suggestions made it onto the card. Get ready to scratch off our predictions and see if we can get bingo before the year ends. You can still add any predictions in the thread - the more, the merrier!

Who remembers the African Lion Safari? This incredible drive-through safari in Warragamba, NSW, was opened by an Australian circus proprietor, Stafford Bullen, in 1968 and was a popular attraction for many years. It allowed visitors to experience animals roaming free, with lions jumping up on passing cars. Sadly, it was closed in 1991, but it will always be remembered as a unique and thrilling experience. Did you ever visit the African Lion Safari?

The cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke, an English scientist and polymath, natural philosopher and architect, in 1665. Hooke was looking at a cork through a microscope and observed a series of small, empty compartments that he referred to as ‘cells’ as they reminded him of the cells, or rooms, in monasteries. This discovery led to the development of classical cell theory.
