We have nearly reached transmittal - the midpoint of the legislative session! Legislators will be on break from March 8-13. Before they head back to Helena, this is a great time to reach out to share your hopes and concerns about the issues that matter the most to you and your family. (If you don’t know who your legislators are, you can look them up here.) Conversations are happening right now that could help families with young children all across our state, so know your story matters.

We are thrilled to support parents, grandparents, teachers, child care providers, and caring citizens in amplifying their voices on critical early childhood issues. On Feb. 5, we hosted our inaugural Early Childhood Summit, followed by our "Have a Heart for Kids" advocacy day at the Capitol on Feb. 6., where we supported 18 families in engaging with their elected representatives (though a few couldn’t make it to Helena due to weather.) This legislative session, the Zero to Five Montana team has provided testimony on 32 bills, delivered 4 advocacy trainings, held 9 weekly legislative update calls (in addition to regular email updates and social media posts), and is actively tracking 254 bills.

A special shoutout goes to our early childhood partners who advocate both in-person at the Capitol and online via Zoom. Your dedication strengthens our collective efforts –together, we are making a difference!

If you are interested in getting involved, let us know how we can help you make connections or get engaged in legislative advocacy in Montana.

Federal Call to Action - Tell Congress to Protect and Update the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC)

Congress is currently considering different tax policies as they work on upcoming legislation, including proposals that would eliminate the CDCTC, a family care credit that helps parents keep more of what they earn to pay for child care. This is a critical moment for child care advocates to make clear that families need support to afford child care.

Tell Congress to protect and update the CDCTC today!
