Good morning

Good morning, wonderful members! How are you all doing on this mighty fine Sunday morning? Well, I hope. If you aren’t doing too well then don’t fret, go grab yourself a cuppa, get comfy, and let me (Maddie) cheer you up a little, eh? 😉

I think the best way to start this newsletter is with this week’s ‘Quote of the Week’ because it’s a real goodie. This week’s quote is thanks to member Nanazorak. Nanazorak emailed us this quote a few weeks ago and it honestly hasn’t left my head. It’s one of those quotes that you read or hear and it just sticks with you. I hope it has the same effect on you as it has on me.

‘You hold the key to your future, don't lose it!’

Don’t you think that is an incredibly powerful quote? I think sometimes when we get stuck in our day-to-day lives it’s hard to remember that we are somewhat in control. We may not be in control of what happens to us, but we are in control of how we react and respond to what happens to us and how this impacts our future. Let me give you all an example (because I just love chatting with you all way too much). Last week, I got some pretty annoying news about my health. Now I’ll be the first to admit, my reaction was to feel a bit sorry for myself and, of course, I take it out on my beautiful partner (I’m only human, members). I was then upset that I had some not-so-great news about my health AND made my partner upset. So, I took some time to calm down, regroup and thought, ‘Okay. How can I deal with this situation that is going to better, future Maddie?’ The first thing I did was apologise to my partner for my crankiness, hugged him, and told him I loved him. The next thing I did? I organised an appointment with another doctor to get a second opinion. We can’t control what happens to us, but we do hold the key to our future and our reactions and actions can dictate what the future holds for us. So, members, if there’s anything you can do today to grip that key to your future even tighter, then I encourage you to do just that!

Oh! One more thing before I go, this week we launched our Australia-wide Senior Discount Directory which contains every seniors discount available in every state and territory across Australia! It’s not perfect (yet) but we figured we would give all of you access to it because we know it will help you. All you have to do is type in your suburb name, or postcode and select your preferred category and click the pink ‘Search button’. Then all the senior discounts around you will appear! We hope you like it, and watch this space for even more new additions to the SDC…

Now enough rambling from me, let’s take a look at what happened across Australia and around the world this week, shall we?

• If you ask me, every Sunday morning should start with a laugh and this joke comparing American ‘alligators’ with Australian crocodiles had me in stitches! A big thanks to member @mick.idgaf for sharing this with us all.
• This week, Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, and IGA gave us some amazing deals, including 340g Plumrose Leg Ham for $5.25, Any 2 Woolies Everyday Classic Meals for $13, and some Moroccan food (yum). These deals are still available today!
• Richard Belzer, who you may know for his role on the hit TV show Law & Order: SVU, died at the age of 78 this week, and his final words were truly unforgettable.
• Kmart was slammed over its controversial new procedure that customers are finding 'insulting’ and ‘demeaning’. Do you think Kmart has taken it one step too far?
• SCAM ALERT: We were made aware of two scams this week. They are a sophisticated new money transfer request scam targeting PayPal users and a cruel scam involving 'illegal' barcode stickers being used to steal from unsuspecting Woolworths customers shopping in-store. Please be careful, members!
• Believe it or not, this woman was fined nearly $900 for parking her car like this. Did you know you could get fined for this?
• Coles was accused of using a misleading marketing trick in their produce aisle. Is your local store doing the same thing?
• URGENT RECALL: A popular beer brand sold in Liquorland and Coles stores across the country was recalled. Members, check your fridge for this one!
• WATCH: Motorists on the Sunshine Coast were left in disbelief after witnessing a bizarre scene of a man clinging to a moving horse trailer on the Bruce Highway completely NAKED, trying to flee the scene of a car crash.
• Kmart shoppers raved about this must-have $14 laundry buy which is not only great for doing the washing but so much more! Will you be giving it a try?
• Anyone who has had dark stains appear on their toilet will know how hard it is to remove them, but this $3 natural hack will remove those stains in no time.
• This $3.90 ‘miracle’ Woolworths product has taken the nation by storm with many customers swearing by it for cleaning ovens, air fryers, washing machines, and more! Have you tried it yet?
• Finally, organised travellers are gushing over this must-have $15 packing item from Kmart. If you love to travel organised, then you will love this!
