Dr. Eli Ahlquist MPA'11 is committed to expanding educational opportunities and advancing socio-economic development within the rural and First Nations communities of Northwest Saskatchewan. Recognizing the critical importance of education in fostering community development, he has dedicated his career to advocating for expanded educational capacity in rural and First Nations communities. Dr. Ahlquist has served as the Dean for Health & Human Services at Keyano College (Alberta) and currently serves as President at North West College (North Battleford & Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan), leading efforts to empower local students to pursue careers in nursing, social work, business, and skilled trades.
The Alumni Effect is a free monthly lunch-hour virtual speaker series that invites the community to hear alumni share stories from their careers and life experience. Alumni Effect speakers are invited to prepare a short, 15-minute presentation, which will be followed by an informal question-and-answer session. Research news | U of R researcher turns an equity lens on the power grid
Through her research, University of Regina social scientist Dr. Amber Fletcher BAHons'06, PhD'14 has come to appreciate that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work when it comes to meeting the needs of communities impacted by climate disasters. As part of a project looking at the experiences of Saskatchewan communities affected by wildfires and floods, she saw that the emergency response provided by authorities—while well-intentioned—was not attentive to cultural differences.
Funding news | University of Regina’s 2024-25 budget focuses on students
The Board of Governors has approved the University of Regina’s 2024-25 budget, with revenues and expenditures each totalling $283.1 million. After three years of deficit budgets, the University is now in a position to reinvest in strategic priority areas that enhance the student experience, such as: mental health supports, scholarships and awards, learning resources, additional faculty positions, and classroom and equipment renewal.
