Wednesday Edition

Good morning

Happy hump day! You’ve made it halfway through the week, congratulations! For those of you who don’t know what hump day is, it isn’t the ‘dog type of hump’ as one member asked last week (a big shout out to you, you know who you are!) Hump day simply means hump as in ‘getting over the hump’, Monday and Tuesday you ‘climb’ the hump (hard, gruelling climb), Wednesday you’re on top of the hump (we can see the finish line) and starting Thursday, it’s all downhill. So don’t go thinking we are celebrating dog humps every Wednesday, because we promise we aren’t.

Now, let’s riddle shall we?

I have four wings, but cannot fly, I never laugh and I never cry, on the same spot I am always found, toiling away with little sound. What am I?

Oooh ladies and gents, don’t tell us this isn’t a hard one! A big thanks to member Dennis R for sending this one through. If you think you know the answer, please post it in our forum here. And as always, if you get the riddle answer correct, we will give you a shout out in tomorrow’s newsletter. So good luck!

Before we get into the news, we also have the Coles, Woolies, Aldi and IGA specials for the week. Be sure to check them out so you can get the best grocery deals available!

So what’s happening across Australia and around the world today?

  • Ladies and gents! It’s time to shop online and get some genuinely good discounts today with the launch of ‘Click Frenzy’. It only goes for 53 hours and top deals include 30% off Dyson products, up to 50% off Michael Hill jewellery, 70% off FILA and so much more.
  • “Keith was a once in a lifetime man, he will be missed beyond belief… thank you for everything.” The Australian cricket community is mourning the tragic death of beloved executive Keith Bradshaw at the age of 58.
  • “Brilliant idea!” A $16 Kmart Christmas hack has gone viral after one mum made her own edgy rainbow Christmas tree using budget $4 buys and it's the perfect tabletop decor.
  • “Free delivery on all orders over $50” Woolies is upping its rivalry against Coles by cutting their delivery costs for all online shopping.
  • Aldi has done it again! And honestly, who is surprised? Check out their latest Christmas Special Buys, because we are seriously considering decorating our entire homes in Aldi Christmas decor.
  • Looking for a 2022 holiday deal? Well, look no further my friends! Jetstar has announced more than 85,000 discounted fares for domestic and trans-Tasman travel.
  • “Covid safe, disability friendly self-saucing machine. Hell yeah, very nice.” We didn’t think the Bunnings sausage sizzles could get much better, but their SauceBot has changed the game.
  • Looks like Scott Morrison has done a complete backflip on his anti-electric cars rhetoric from 2019, by unveiling a plan to flood Australia with electric cars.

Quite the introduction eh? We might leave it there so you can enjoy the rest of the newsletter. Good luck with the trivia question, it’s a toughie. We love keeping you on your toes.

P.S: Do you have any social events coming up this festive season? You can get a FREE face-to-face hour long consultation with an audiologist who can answer any questions you have about hearing loss and hearing aids, and you may be entitled to government subsidies. Click here to see if you're eligible.*

P.S.S: Did you know we are running a 'joke' competition, where the best joke submitted before the end of November will receive a $100 Coles or Woolies voucher (at the winner's discretion). So get involved and submit your joke here.

Have a great day and happy reading!

Study shows exercise the key to a long life, not watching your weight

Exercise

Exercise is more important for better health and a longer life than weight loss, especially if you’re already overweight or obese, a report has found. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), around two in three (67 per cent) Australians aged 18 and over were overweight or obese, And for a really long time, losing weight has been virtually synonymous with improving your overall health. Skinner = healthier, right?

Well, researchers from Arizona State University have found that when it comes to those with increased health risks, getting enough exercise is more important than simply losing weight. The team was specifically trying to find out the best ways to improve the health outcomes of obese and overweight people, and they found out the best way to do it.

Nap

Do you love a good nap?! Well, our fellow napping friends, do we have some good news for you! It turns out, taking a regular afternoon nap in your old age appears to protect your brain from cognitive decline and boosts mental agility.

But there’s a ‘sweet spot’, no less than 30 and no more than 90 minutes for these naps – if they’re longer (or shorter and highly frequent), then the risk of cognitive decline actually goes up. Here’s everything you need to know about these findings.

Someone is admitted to an Australian hospital every six minutes with an osteoporotic fracture.
