Speakers Jemima Garrett, Matt Darvas, Olivia Baro, Emeline Siale Ilolahia and Emily Moreton shared their insights on the power and responsibility of these sectors in shaping the future of the Pacific region. The dialogue was the first step in a collaborative process to produce an options paper outlining a vision and pathways for how Australia can proactively partner with Pacific media, youth and civil society to help shape a peaceful, prosperous and resilient region. Daniel has lived and worked in the Pacific islands region for over a decade, predominantly in the justice and security fields. His writing on human rights, urbanisation and justice has been published widely, with his previous roles spanning criminal law, legal sociology, judicial system reform and project design and implementation. Daniel has worked on a number of bilateral aid projects as well as with the World Bank and the United Nations. Thomas is a senior humanitarian response practitioner with more than 15 years of experience across countries in Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East, most recently in Türkiye as Assistant Country Director at CARE International and before that Senior Coordination Officer with UNHCR.
