Storm Season, Squared Away: 3 Ways to Stay Connected with Pinellas County Emergency Management
Hurricane season doesn't wait for a perfect moment, and neither should we. Whether it's a tropical storm watch, a boil water notice, or just wanting to know what's happening in the neighborhood before it hits the news, staying informed is one of the simplest ways to protect your family and your home. Here are three ways our Lealman neighbors can stay connected to Pinellas County Emergency Management, before, during, and after a storm. 1. Bookmark disaster.pinellas.gov This is the county's go-to hub for up-to-the-minute emergency information: evacuation zones, shelter openings, road closures, and storm updates, all in one place. During an emergency, you can also call the County Information Center at 727-464-4333, or use the
Live Chat feature on the site, a great option for anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing. 2. Sign up for Alert Pinellas Alert Pinellas is a free notification service that sends urgent messages straight to your phone or email from Pinellas County, local municipalities, and the Sheriff's Office. Severe weather, evacuation orders, boil water notices, it's how the county reaches you directly when it matters most. Sign up in a few minutes at pinellas.gov/alert-pinellas. 3. Download the Ready Pinellas app Available free on the Apple App Store and Google Play, Ready Pinellas puts your emergency plan in your pocket. Save personalized checklists, insurance information,
emergency contacts, and a home inventory right to your phone, so they're there even if the power goes out or cell service goes down. The app also pushes real-time alerts and updates straight to your device. Being storm-ready isn't about doing everything at once, it's about knowing where to look and who to trust when the forecast changes. Take five minutes this week to set these up, and you'll be ready to ride out whatever the season brings. Want the full list of ways to stay informed? Visit pinellas.gov/stay-informed.

Get Outside This September: Join the Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz
Here's a reason to get the whole family off the couch and into the sunshine this September: Pinellas County Parks & Conservation Resources is joining the National Recreation and Park Association's Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz, and Lealman is invited. Wait, what's a BioBlitz? Good question. A BioBlitz is basically a nature scavenger hunt with a purpose. Using the free iNaturalist app, you and your family head outside and snap photos of the plants, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators you spot along the way. The app helps identify what you're looking at, and every observation gets logged as part of Pinellas County's count. It's one of the rare times we're actively encouraging everyone to be on their phones outdoors
instead of on the couch. And yes, there's a little friendly competition Pinellas County placed 3rd in the nation last year for this event, and the goal this year is #1. Every family that gets outside and logs a few observations helps push us closer, through the county's Bee City USA – Pinellas County affiliation. How to join in Events are happening throughout September, including at Neri Park right here in our area, plus locations in Pinellas Park and Clearwater. Can't make it to a scheduled event? No problem, download iNaturalist and start exploring on your own time at Neri Park or anywhere else in the county. Keep in mind this isn't a big produced event with vendors or live music. It's simple by design: a relaxed chance to get outside, notice the nature around you, and meet some of the Pinellas County Parks staff along the way. A few ways to get involved: - Look for the flyer posted around LEX and pass it along to parents, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
- Bring it up in your September newsletters, programs, and activities.
- Watch for the official event details on social media and share when it goes up.
- Grab the family and make it an outing, exploring the park together is half the fun.
Grab your phone, grab the kids, and let's help Pinellas County take the top spot.
