Northbrook's 125th Anniversary

On November 18th, 2026 the Village officially turns 125 years old!  The Ad Hoc 125th Anniversary Celebration Commission is meeting regularly to plan activities that highlight and share the Village’s proud history since its incorporation in 1901.  Stay tuned for special celebrations throughout the year as we mark this milestone!

CELEBRATING LUNAR NEW YEAR

On Tuesday, February 17, many families in Northbrook will celebrate Lunar New Year, a holiday observed across East and Southeast Asia and rooted in themes of renewal, gratitude, and good fortune. As we continue celebrating Northbrook’s 125th anniversary, this season is a meaningful reminder of the traditions and cultures that enrich our community.

Lunar New Year is often a time to pause, reflect on the year behind us, and look ahead with hope. Families gather for special meals, honor elders, and share wishes for health, happiness, and prosperity. While customs vary across cultures, the spirit of togetherness is universal.

Looking for ways to celebrate as a family? Consider trying one of these simple traditions at home:

  • Share a New Year meal featuring dishes that symbolize good luck, such as noodles for longevity or dumplings for prosperity.
  • Clean or declutter together as a way to welcome fresh beginnings and let go of the old.
  • Create red or gold decorations or write down hopes for the year ahead to display at home.
  • Learn something new together, such as the story behind Lunar New Year or how it is celebrated in different cultures.

Whether you celebrate Lunar New Year as a long-standing tradition or are learning about it for the first time, it’s an opportunity to connect with family, neighbors, and the wider Northbrook community.

Wishing all who celebrate a joyful Lunar New Year filled with health, happiness, and new beginnings.
