A key focus of the recent trade mission was to participate in Gulfood 2024, held in Dubai. As the world's largest food, beverage, and hospitality exhibition, Gulfood offered a prime opportunity for the WA agribusiness leaders to connect with potential partners on a global stage. The Government of WA stand took centre stage in the Australian Pavilion of World Food showcasing honey, dairy (including camel dairy), seafood, fruit, vegetables, cereals, juice, condiments, lupin pasta and truffle products. Another 10 WA agrifood businesses also exhibited independently at Gulfood, which attracted over 5500 exhibitors representing over 127 countries. After Gulfood, the delegation travelled to Saudi Arabia where they engaged in productive meetings with prominent food and beverage importers and distributors, further solidifying their outreach efforts and exploring potential business partnerships in the Kingdom. The region is expected to be the world’s fourth largest economy by 2040. Its large and growing population is driving spending on products, services and experiences. Austrade says it’s a great time for Australian business to seek new opportunities in the region. Demand for food, digital products, healthcare, education and training, and financial services is increasing. The region also needs critical minerals, technology and expertise to support its adoption of clean energy. Trade goes both ways. Australian business looking to diversify and build resilience in their supply chains can look to Southeast Asia’s advanced manufacturing and tech sectors. To power its economic growth, Southeast Asia seeks investment in several sectors. Investments in infrastructure and energy systems will be crucial in the region’s transition to net zero. Australia and Southeast Asia’s futures are closely linked. By increasing two-way trade and investment, Australia and the region can advance their mutual prosperity and security. The latest round of funding from the Carbon Farming and Land Restoration Program is now available to farmers, the agroforestry industry, Aboriginal landowners and community and natural resource management organisations. The program aims to realise agriculture's potential to sequester carbon, generate carbon credits and grow WA's carbon farming industry. A series of workshops will be held in coming weeks to help landholders understand the benefits of carbon farming and prepare a funding application. More details for Round 3 of the Carbon Farming and Land Restoration Program are available online. Applications close on 20 May 2024.
