Source: We Are Emersyn / DPIRD | Photo: We Are Emersyn The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia (CCIWA), in partnership with Invest and Trade Western Australia, launched a dedicated website earlier this year to showcase investment opportunities in the State. The WA Investments website showcases a range of investment-ready projects in WA, across a range of industry sectors to drive investment attraction to the State, grow the economy and create jobs. A CCIWA survey found that a significant number of businesses in the State are actively seeking foreign investment. The survey also found that total investment in WA is approximately $46 billion. This suggests that there is a tremendous opportunity to increase investment in WA, particularly in the State's core industry sectors and emerging and innovative sectors. This initiative complements existing trade promotion and investment attraction activity already undertaken by the State Government’s Invest and Trade WA. Under the partnership, CCIWA’s International Trade and Investment Centre developed, implemented and now maintains the digital platform. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is supporting CCIWA to connect with WA's primary industries sector. The website features curated commercial investments from a minimum of $10 million with a particular focus on investments in the sectors: primary industries, mining, energy, mining and technology services (METS), tourism, creative industries, health medical life sciences, defence industries and space industries. The platform is an important tool in the State’s investment attraction efforts and will assist to showcase the types of investment projects and the investment potential in WA. To find out more about showcasing your investment project, please contact Michael Carter, Head of CCIWA’s International Trade and Investment Centre, via michael.carter@cciwa.com. More... Produced by the Invest and Trade WA team at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, the report says that in 2021-2022 the US$1.26 trillion Indonesia market was Australia’s 12th largest trading partner and 8th largest merchandise export market. In 2021-22, 30% of WA's petroleum exports were sent to Indonesia, along with 27% of the State's iron ore and 18% of our wheat. The 2020 Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) provides improved access to the Indonesian market for Australian exports. With more than 99% of Australian agricultural products now entering Indonesia duty free under IA-CEPA, there are now opportunities in Indonesia for WA suppliers of meat, vegetables, fruit, seafood, dairy and gourmet foods (prepacked salads, yoghurt, chocolates, nougat, honey and olives). Visit the Invest and Trade WA website for market opportunities for WA businesses seeking to export to, or seeking investment from, other key international markets such as China, the Gulf Region, India, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea and the United Kingdom and Europe. It’s known as ‘food security’ and can be particularly challenging for those in regional areas to achieve. Other countries have improved food security issues by implementing ‘Food Action Groups’, also known as Food Policy Councils. Internationally, these groups have implemented effective activities including local food procurement and zero waste cafes. They can be a useful mechanism to engage producers and food system actors in supporting food system resiliency, economic development, and increasing food access, which aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals ‘Zero Hunger’, and ‘Responsible Production and Consumption’. Edith Cowan University’s Centre for People, Place and Planet is currently scoping interest in Food Action Groups across regional Western Australia. The project, supported by the Western Australian Future Health Research and Innovation Fund –an initiative of the WA State Government – aims to understand stakeholder and community perspectives about actionable solutions for food problems in their region. Increasing digital pathways and awareness of circular economy practices have been two suggestions thus far. Project Manager Dr Stephanie Godrich said “This project provides a platform for stakeholders and community voices about activities they believe will effectively support WA food security.” For further information, please contact Dr Godrich at s.godrich@ecu.edu.au.
