Be part of a very special Western Australian Mental Health Week Opening Ceremony this year.
The Mental Health Commission and the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) present the premiere of PIECES in association with Third Storey Pictures.
This is a powerful film about a group of interconnected people living with mental health challenges who undertake an art therapy class that transforms not only their lives but the lives of their teacher.
Please join us on Thursday, 6 October from 3pm at Luna Palace Cinemas in Leederville for the Perth premiere of the Perth-based and produced film, PIECES to celebrate WA Mental Health Week.
The event will be officially opened by Minister for Mental Health The Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson, with a Q&A after the film with the director and some of the carers and actors on stage.
Tickets are $12 with proceeds going to community mental health organisation, HelpingMinds. (If you have lived experience as a consumer, carer or family member and are unwaged or on low income, please reach out to WAAMH to organise access to a limited number of subsidised tickets).
You can register to attend and purchase tickets at mentalhealthweek.org.au/pieces
There will be more screenings of PIECES in regional towns across WA and at the Backlot in West Perth during Mental Health Week – more details to come!
Bringing PIECES to the big screen was a project close to director, and Perth local, Martin Wilson's heart. He made the film to highlight the extraordinary efforts of mental health carers – too often the invisible, unheard champions supporting people close to them with complex mental health challenges.
By launching the film in Mental Health Week, Martin hopes to demystify mental illness, and start conversations that debunk misconceptions and stereotypes that amplify the stigma, discrimination and isolation experienced by people living with a mental illness diagnosis.
We hope to see you at Opening Ceremony!
