As we approach the end of 2023, Christmas and light the last candle of Hannukah, I am writing to you with a message of light and hope for quiet days.
During these challenging times, our partners are in our thoughts. The appalling attack by Hamas and ongoing conflict, has left an indelible mark on the country. We extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones, and wish a swift recovery to the injured.
At the British Council in Israel, we work to increase the light by continuing with our mission to foster connections and build trust. Our programmes continue to operate with adaptability and flexibility, supporting our partners and friends.
The recent weeks have highlighted the unwavering support and kindness of our partners. The support of the Pears Foundation and the commitment of the British Embassy in Israel has enabled us to continue our flagship programme BIRAX for six more years.
Our incredible partners confirmed their support to fund cutting-edge British-Israeli research focused on the challenges of Ageing. An official announcement on the winning research projects and the official launch of the next stage of BIRAX are forthcoming.
Recent months have highlighted the importance of food security and agriculture. We are grateful to the Wohl Legacy for renewing their commitment to our Clean Growth Alliance programme. We invite more partners to join us and further enhance the alliance.
Looking ahead to the new year, we are filled with hope by the opportunities that lie ahead. We are encouraged by the resilience of our collaborative efforts, demonstrating that even in challenging times, our shared commitment to science, progress and positive change prevails.
