Adamah NY

Dear Friends,

Fall brings with it a natural pause—a moment of introspection, warmth, and the beauty of changing colors outdoors. With Thanksgiving arriving tomorrow, we at Adamah NY have much to be grateful for. Almost daily, I am (radically!) amazed by the growth, depth, and richness of the work emerging here—especially in a time when the world around us often feels short on good news. The weight of communal, national, and global crises is real and present. And yet, I am deeply grateful for this work, for the people who animate it, and for the hope and direction it provides our community. If you’re inspired by what we’re building, please consider supporting this work with a gift today.

This month, we had the privilege of leading a workshop on climate and sustainability at Park Slope Jewish Center in Brooklyn for synagogue leaders. Among the many thoughtful voices in the room, we were honored to welcome Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, who delivered an energetic and inspiring address:

“Climate action is an act of faith. It’s a commitment to the generations who will inherit our choices. Through your work greening your houses of worship, tending to the trees outside your doors, and reducing your carbon footprint, Adamah NY and the synagogues in its network are living out a vision of justice and stewardship that this borough desperately needs. You remind us that civic leadership and spiritual leadership go hand in hand.”

He spoke powerfully about the unique potential faith-based communities hold in moving the needle—through local knowledge, spiritual grounding, and long-term mobilization that often outlasts political cycles. Our mobilization truly comes from within: community-based, educationally and scientifically informed, and spiritually rooted.

So much has happened with teens this year—more than 800 engaged so far, and you can read more below and get inspired. For younger teens, we’re thrilled to launch the Adamah NY B’Mitzvah Cohort, a month-long environmental and social justice program that empowers young people to design a mitzvah project that brings their values to life while connecting Jewish tradition with real climate action. More great offerings are on the way as well, so be sure to keep an eye on our events page, including an upcoming webinar on battery storage and environmental justice in New York and several Chanukah events!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, if you’re moved by this work, I invite you to support Adamah NY as we continue mobilizing communities, deepening resilience, and planting the seeds of long-term climate leadership across our region.

With gratitude and hope,

Dr. Shahar Sadeh,
 Adamah NY Director
