Issue 809 Thursday, 13 June 2024
Just two weeks since China Southern Airlines announced the return of its non-stop flights between Guangzhou and Perth, Western Australia’s global tourism brand Walking On A Dream officially launched in China. Tourism WA has been promoting this milestone moment with Chinese travel trade and media, high-profile events and a paid media campaign targeting high-yield Chinese travellers, emphasising the dreamlike qualities and unique experiences of Western Australia. This expansion into China, one of the Dream State’s fastest-growing markets,
is expected to drive significant growth and success for our industry and comes ahead of the direct flights between mainland China and Perth resuming in November. In other great news, new figures reveal the Giants of Mandurah, a cultural tourism attraction by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, has delivered significant economic impact, injecting $64 million in visitor spend into the Peel region in its first 12 months, following its launch in November 2022. Latest data reveals more than 86,000 visitors from outside the Peel region spent nearly 350,000 nights in local accommodation to explore the region and the Australian-exclusive installation in
2023. The Giants of Mandurah exhibition was initiated and managed by FORM: Building A State of Creativity and supported by the City of Mandurah and Tourism WA, through the Regional Events Program. At this week’s 2024 Perth Airport WA Tourism Conference, delivered by Tourism Council WA and held in Mandurah/Mandjoogoordap, I was proud to discuss the newly launched program, The Dream Collective Western Australia. Developed in partnership with Tourism Council WA, the initiative promotes and showcases the best of WA's tourism offerings, by
celebrating top tourism operators who deliver high-quality visitor experiences. Tourism businesses can apply for The Dream Collective at wadreamcollective.com from now until 12 July, and I look forward to welcoming WA’s best operators and tour experiences to the initiative. I was thrilled to be able to connect with our valued industry members at the WA Tourism Conference and I’d like to thank everyone who assisted in bringing this amazing event
together. Warm regards,
