WA agribusinesses are invited to share their trade and investment aspirations for the remainder of 2023, 2024 and beyond. By completing this survey you will assist the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) with prioritising future support services for the WA agrifood and beverage sector. By letting us know your trade and export aspirations including market priorities, we can ensure you are given the opportunity to connect directly with overseas buyers when hosting inbound trade missions. Led by Premier Roger Cook, Indonesia Connect Roadshow 2023 will unlock new economic opportunities for Western Australian businesses in the Indonesia market, and promote our State as a destination for tourists, students, innovators, businesses and investors. Expressions of interest to join the delegation are open to WA businesses interested in entering or expanding their operations in Indonesia. Running from 2 to 9 September, the roadshow will feature a week-long program of business initiatives in Jakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar along five industry streams: energy transition; international education; primary industries; creative industries and digital economy; and tourism. Attendees from the primary industries stream may be from the following sectors: agriculture; aquaculture; fisheries; food and beverage; and agritech. As a participant of the Indonesia Connect Roadshow, the following opportunities will be available: pre-departure briefings; business matching opportunities; participation in the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in Jakarta; stream-related site visits; roundtables and conferences; networking events; and WA Government hosted dinners and receptions. If so, you could be eligible for a fully-funded place on the Curtin Ignition program, a week-long intensive program designed to help you take your idea to the next level. Since 2016 the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has offered three fully-funded individual places for those with ideas in areas such as agribusiness, agtech, food and beverage manufacturing to participate in the program. Non-funded positions are $3,750 (excluding GST) per person. Past participants of the Curtin Ignition program have gone on to launch successful businesses, including Erin Gorter, who is now working with Murdoch University to embed a job readiness unit for students, and Jasper Trendall, who has opened an online store for his soap products. Far right photo, L-R: Jasper Trendall and Erin Gorter.] Innovative truffle products for high-end culinary markets around the globe are being developed in a recently opened facility at Manjimup, with the support of the Western Australian Government. A $339,600 Value Add Investment Grant has assisted the newly formed Western Australian Truffle Collective to build a small-scale research and development kitchen and factory to create a diverse range of fermented, canned and jarred products. The investment will assist the WA Truffle Collective to offer value added truffle goods to Australian and Asian markets - on top of traditional sales of fresh products to Europe. In 2022, 8.7 tonnes of WA truffles were exported to North America, Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia worth over $7 million. WA exports more than 90% of the nation's truffles and is now the world's fourth largest producer after Spain, France and Italy. More... Source: WA Government | Photo: DPIRD The Department of Trade and Foreign Affairs and Enterprise Singapore will be running a A$20 million Go-Green Co-Innovation Program to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Australia and Singapore, to engage in co-innovation activities and explore collaboration across green growth sectors, over the next four years. Under the program, grants can be used to fund the development and commercialisation of products, services or solutions that drive the decarbonisation of economic activities or help Singapore and Australia transition to net zero emissions. Source and Image: DFAT and Austrade / Enterprise Singapore The 12th International Conference and Workshop on Lobster (and Crab) Biology workshop will be held from 22 to 27 October 2023 at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle, Western Australia. The theme for the event is ecosystem-based fisheries management. Hosted by the Western Rock Lobster Council, Australia’s Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and WA’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), the conference will welcome presentations on all aspects of lobster and crab research, biology, management, and aquaculture. The western rock lobster fishery is the largest single species fishery in Australia with a value of over $450 million annually, and a long history of internationally recognised research, management, and compliance. In 2000, this fishery was the first in the world to receive Marine Stewardship Council accreditation. Up to 200 participants from over 20 countries are expected to attend the conference, so register now. Source: ICWL | Photo: DPIRD The Western Australian Government is continuing to help the local business community gain access to key Asian markets, with 12 Western Australian local businesses sharing in almost $298,000 in funding from the Access Asia Business Grants (AABG) program. The funding will enable the small to medium enterprises to advance their trade and build competitiveness in key Asian markets including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam. Following a competitive assessment process, the 12 businesses received individual grants of up to $27,500 (excluding GST) to pursue market access projects in the following priority sectors: primary industries, tourism, events and creative industries, defence industries, mining and mining equipment, technology and services, health and medical life sciences and energy. Recipients of the grant are required to invest at least 20% into their funded projects and will have six months to complete them. Now in its fifth funding round, the AABG program is a key initiative under the WA Government's Asian Engagement Strategy 2019-30 – Our future with Asia. Since its inception in 2019, the program has awarded more than $1.4 million to 80 WA-based small and medium-sized enterprises and organisations to assist them in gaining access to new Asian markets.
