FIRE SAFETY TIPS THIS THANKSGIVING
Did you know that Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home cooking fires? The Northbrook Fire Department wants residents to practice fire safety in the kitchen to ensure a happy and safe holiday! Here are a few tips: - Never leave cooking or open flames unattended.
- Keep children away from hot surfaces, foods, and candles.
- Be sure that electric cords from an electric knife, coffee maker, plate warmer, or mixer are not dangling off the counter within easy reach of children.
- Ensure smoke alarms are working. Test and replace batteries if needed.
- Use
specialty cooking equipment with caution.

Avoid Holiday Scams - Just Hang Up or Press Delete!
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are just days away and many of us will be shopping. This time of year, means that scammers are shopping for victims, too! If you get a call, email, or text message asking for personal info, money, or gift card numbers, it’s a scam—no matter what name or number shows up in your inbox. Don’t engage, just hang up or press delete! If you’re unsure, reach out to the Illinois Attorney General’s Consumer Fraud Hotline at 1-800-386-5438. Stay smart, stay safe, and keep the holidays joyful!
Make Sure Your Home is Winterized!
Cold weather brings the potential for frozen water service lines, water meters, and residential fire sprinkler systems. Check thoroughly to identify and seal all cold air drafts near water pipes, including basement windows, crawl space vents, and the glass water meter viewing blocks. Also, if you vacation during winter months, set the thermostat no lower than 55°F before leaving to prevent frozen pipes and sprinkler systems.
