Enjoying Autumn

Art Fair flags flying on Hobson Wharf

Kia ora koutou,

Ngahuru (Autumn) is well and truly here and there’s still lots on including a little bit longer to experience the Aotearoa Art Fair Sculpture Trail.

Presented by Viaduct Harbour as part of the Aotearoa Art Fair, the trail showcases large-scale and striking sculptures from 18 artists throughout the Viaduct Harbour. You’ve got until 4 May to enjoy ‘art in a new dimension.’

Proudly supported by Auckland Council Events and the city centre targeted rate.

Ngā mihi nui,

Your Waterfront Team

A reunion worth recognising

It’s been 60 years since five likely lads started their engineering apprenticeships at Mason Bros. Celebrating the anniversary at a local favourite, Swashbucklers, the life-long friends commemorated their 1966 apprenticeship intake at Mason Bros, a marine engineering company, based then in Pakenham St.

Peter Jacobs, who has worked in the Wynyard Quarter for most of his life and now loves living there, says they’re all still good mates and all still married to their first wives!

You can read more about Peter’s connection to the Wynyard Quarter in an article here.

Mason Bros Engineering 1966 apprentice intake. From left to right, Kevin Shultz, William Fatherly, Peter Jacobs (allegedly top apprentice but seriously debated over the years!) Shon Sagar and Jeff Cate.

Let there be light

A full replacement of all streetlights on Queens Wharf main street will soon be completed. We’re confident this will really improve the feeling of this area in the evening. Broken streetlights at the container village are also being replaced, which should see much improved illumination of the area.

There has been an issue with the 60 low level ‘safety’ lights along the eastern edge of the wharf not working properly and they are also being changed out. This area gives great views of the central wharves area and Australasia’s largest light wall, The Lightship.

Courtesy on the bridge

Just a gentle reminder to cyclists using the Wynyard Crossing Bridge to please watch your speed and show courtesy to other users. Thanks a lot.
