Hi Friend,
The sandals are put away and the boots are back by the door. It feels good, that first cool-morning, closed-shoe kind of good. Fall finally showing up.
Then somewhere in the last couple weeks a knee or your low back started grumbling, and most people never think to blame the shoes. Your feet are the foundation, and when they change, everything above them quietly adjusts.
- A new heel height changes how you stand
Even a small lift from a boot tips your weight forward, and your back adjusts to keep you upright. Go from a flat sandal to a heel overnight and your low back feels it.
Try this: Ease into a new heel height over a week instead of all at once. Wear the boots a few hours the first days, then stretch it longer, and let your body settle in gradually.
- Living in one pair asks a lot of one pattern
When you find the comfortable pair, you tend to wear it every single day. The same sole, the same angle, the same stress on the same spots, over and over.
Try this: Rotate between two or three pairs through the week. Different soles and heel heights spread the load around so no single joint takes the whole job every day.
- One-sided wear tells a story
Flip your shoes over and look at the soles. If one wears down faster or on one edge, that's a hint about how you've been carrying yourself.
Try this: Check the wear pattern on your old sneakers and your newer boots. Notice if you favor one foot standing in the kitchen or waiting in line, and bring what you see to your next visit.
