New Jersey regulators Tuesday (12/07) approved 30 new licenses to companies who will sell medicinal marijuana, more than doubling the number of retail locations for a growing pool of patients who for years complained about long commutes to obtain legal cannabis. On January 1, 2022, Philadelphia’s ordinance, titled, “Prohibition on Testing for Marijuana as a Condition for Employment,” Phila. Code § 9-5500, et seq., will take effect. For those of age, the recreational use of marijuana in many states is just as legal as sitting down for a cold beer; cannabis consumption for medical purposes is permitted even more broadly. In March 2021, the New York State Legislature passed, and then-Governor Andrew Cuomo signed, the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA or the Act). Marijuana acts as a sedative, but in a new study, scientists say it can harm sleep.
