Specimen Label Printing Reminders and TroubleshootingSome lab specimen labels are printing without required information, or it’s unreadable. When printing labels, these items must be legible, or the lab may reject the specimen: - Patient’s first and last name.
- Patient’s MRN and/or DOB.
- Date and time of specimen collection.
If these items aren’t printing clearly, turn the label printer off, and try this: - Pause and turn it back on.
- Open the lid, reposition the labels, close the printer lid and turn it back on.
- Open the lid, clean the printer head with alcohol prep, close the lid, and turn it back on.
If labels still aren’t printing clearly, call the IT Service Desk. Be prepared with the printer name. For details, including how to remove labels from printers, review the Troubleshooting for Specimen
Label Printing tip sheet.

FBI: Cyberattackers Mailing USBs to BusinessesCybercriminals are targeting businesses by mailing packages with USBs. The packages contain fake letters from Amazon or the US Dept. of Health and Human Services, according to the FBI. The instructions are to plug in the USB to select your Amazon prize or to confirm your familiarity with CDC regulations. If the USB is plugged into the computer it infects your computer and steals information, even after you remove it. Note: It is very important that you never plug any unknown USB device into any computer.

New TAPS Patient Safety Reporting System Launches Feb. 1
Clinical Staff and Leaders – Complete LMS Training NowStarting Tuesday, Feb. 1, you can report potential safety issues in a Transparency and Accountability in Patient Safety (TAPS) system instead of PSN. This new tool has a cleaner look and feel but your workflows remain the same. LMS training for frontline staff and managers/directors has already been assigned. Please complete it as soon as possible. Use TAPS to report any patient safety concerns, including (but not limited to) unexpected outcomes, malfunctioning equipment or medical devices and difficulty with physicians, clinicians and/or
staff. TAPS provides a safe place to record issues and concerns without documentation in the patients’ legally-accessible medical record. For managers and directors: TAPS provides additional alerting and reporting functionality, including tracking follow up.

HMWB: New Pulsara EMS Transport Notification
Online Training Available NowComing soon, a new Pulsara technology will allow paramedics and EMTs to alert the HMWB Emergency Department through an app, from the ambulance, when they’re bringing in patients with strokes or other acute conditions. This advance notice helps to prepare the ED when the patients arrive and to alert the stroke team or interventional radiology, as needed. When minutes matter, paramedics can send a patient’s vital signs and other information, like an EKG, pulse oxygen level and more, while on the way to the ED. Online training available
now
LMS training Pulsara Training for Hospital Team Members (course #1607006) has been assigned to HMWB ED physicians, nurses, directors, managers, paramedics, EMTs, patient access specialists and techs, and for stroke teams and interventional radiology.
How it works
Download the Pulsara app thru HM Company Intune on your iPhone, and begin using it. For ED iPads, submit an IT Service Desk ticket, and IT Field Ops will set up the app. For Pulsara questions, contact your manager, charge nurse or lead tech. For technical questions, contact the IT Service Desk.
