Many of you have heard me say it before – we don’t provide excellent patient care for the recognition. We give our best to our patients because they deserve it. But when you are recognized for that excellent care, it is always an honor.
HMSL has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the No. 6 hospital in Houston and the No. 9 hospital in Texas! It is a privilege to continue being recognized for our dedication to quality and patient safety. These rankings would not be possible without you and your hard work. I could not be more proud to be a part of this amazing team here at Sugar Land.
I hope you had the opportunity to read Dr. Boom’s email about Houston Methodist Hospital being named to the prestigious Honor Roll – highlighting the best hospitals in the country. HMSL Recognized for High-Quality Stroke Care
Congratulations, HMSL! We earned the Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS award from the American Heart Association with:
- Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus
- Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
This award is a result of all of the hard work the hospital does in caring for our stroke patients in Fort Bend County. Thank you!
HMSL Welcomes New Orthopedic Spine Surgeon
Dr. Alexander Molinari has joined Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at Sugar Land. He started earlier this month and is already seeing patients. As a spine surgeon, his specialties include degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and osteoporosis. Read more about Dr. Molinari here.
39th DAISY Award Winner
ED nurse Stacy Kent is the 39th HMSL recipient of the DAISY award. She was nominated by more than one patient for her extraordinary care. Stacy was surprised by her team in the ED, who celebrated her along with senior leadership, her family and other hospital leaders. DAISY Award honorees personify our I CARE values. Houston Astros Player Appearance
Mark your calendars! A Houston Astros player will be stopping by HMSL next Monday, July 29 to take photos with staff. This event will be in Brazos BC from 11 a.m. - noon. Please note, due to time constraints, the player will not be signing autographs. Please bring your cell phone and we will take your picture. Click here for a helpful flyer.
Recognizing the Impact of Microaggressions
Microaggressions can lead to strained relationships and breakdowns in trust, as well as present barriers to promoting inclusivity. There will be another in-person DEI learning series on microaggressions this Thursday, July 25, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Brazos AD. Click here to register.
Community Baby Shower is Coming Up
Houston Methodist Childbirth Center at Sugar Land invites new and expectant moms — along with their partners and babies — to our annual Community Baby Shower! The event will be Friday, August 2 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. You’re welcome to stop by at any time during the shower. This special event will include:
- Demonstrations on baby carrier safety
- Presentations on safe sleeping practices
- Car seat safety instructions by Sugar Land Police Department
- One-on-one breastfeeding support from lactation consultants

Back-to-School Shoe Drive
HMSL is once again supporting Fort Bend Rainbow Room for a back-to-school shoe drive. This organization supports abused and neglected children in crisis by offering them access to commonly needed items like school supplies, clothes and toiletries, among others. In this back-to-school season, they need shoes for school children ages 5 to 18. Last year HMSL collected 246 pairs of shoes. We need your help to beat that with 300 pairs this year. The drive will take place on Friday, Aug. 9 in Brazos AD. Click here for a helpful flyer.
Pathway to Unparalleled Registration Now Open
Pathway to Unparalleled (PTU) is back and this year’s interactive program is designed to help employees think about unparalleled quality. The 90-minute sessions will focus on how each member of the Houston Methodist team delivers the best care and outcomes every time by doing the right thing, doing it well, doing it safely and with compassion.
Employee sessions will begin Aug. 22 and continue through October. All Houston Methodist employees are strongly encouraged to attend and to register as soon as possible. Employees can register for a PTU session in LMS by following these instructions:
- Log in to MARS and click on the LMS SuccessFactors tile
- On the rotating carousel, when the PTU picture appears, click Register for a class
- Find a date/time that works with your schedule
- Click the Register Now button to enroll in a session
LaborWorkx Knowledge Center Moving to myHR Portal
The LaborWorkx Knowledge Center will permanently move from the Houston Methodist intranet to the public myHR portal today, July 22. Implementing this change will improve access to LaborWorkx content for those not signed into the HM network.
- Log on to the myHR portal
- Select the drop-down arrow on the Tools & Resources tab
- Select the LaborWorkx Time & Attendance & LWx Staff Scheduling tile
You will then be able to select from Time and Attendance, Staff Scheduling, Badge Readers and Training & Access tabs. We also have added the LaborWorkx rules environment as a related link for timecard supervisors to make corrections for the previous pay period in this one convenient location. More information is available on the myHR portal.
After Beryl: Employees Helping Employees
Houston Methodist offers many benefits that can help you and your family during this recovery period from Hurricane Beryl. Employees who need financial assistance may request a grant through our Employees Helping Employees fund. Employees could be approved for a grant that varies based on need and available funds. Click here to submit your request. The deadline is this Wednesday, July 24. If you had damage to your home, you will receive a separate survey to get details about the extent of the damage.
Help those affected by Hurricane Beryl through I CARE in Action
Millions in southeast Texas continue recovering after Hurricane Beryl made landfall as a Category 1 storm. Volunteers are needed during this crucial time to provide immediate support throughout the greater Houston area. Through I CARE in Action, Houston Methodist grants eligible employees hours to volunteer their time to designated nonprofit partners. In addition, employees can earn 3,000 HealthyDirections+ points for their volunteer efforts. Click here to view available opportunities and register.

Introducing Office of Sustainability Newsletter
The Office of Sustainability is rolling out a quarterly newsletter. This newsletter will share departmental updates, campus events and systemwide sustainability efforts. It will also help you connect with your campus sustainability committees and learn about involvement opportunities. The first newsletter is expected to arrive in late August.
