The Framework includes 30+ Requirements across 7 Use Cases, and a Use Case Specific Scoring model. The Framework will be released in Summer 2022, followed by a report series evaluating best-fit use cases for selected technology approaches. DALI products win Alighting AwardsSeveral DALI products were successful in the 10th Alighting Awards, which is organized by the China-based publication Alighting.cn. The successful companies, who are all members of the DALI Alliance, are:

MIPI Transitions to New Board Leadership Sanjiv Desai (Intel Corporation), former vice chair of the MIPI Alliance Board of Directors, has been appointed chair, assuming the role from longtime chair Joel Huloux (STMicroelectronics), who recently announced his forthcoming retirement. In conjunction with this transition, board member Rick Wietfeldt (Qualcomm Incorporated) was appointed vice chair. In addition, Peter Lefkin was promoted to MIPI Alliance executive director and will continue to serve as board secretary. Hezi Saar (Synopsys Inc.) remains as board treasurer, a role in which he has served since 2016. New MIPI A-PHY Protocol Adaptation Layer Adopted A new specification has been added to the MIPI Automotive SerDes Solutions (MASS) framework with the adoption of MIPI PAL℠/ETH v1.0, an A-PHY protocol adaptation layer (PAL) released to Alliance members in March 2022. The specification lets OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers use a single A-PHY cable for both high-speed image data and low-speed Ethernet control data between automotive display modules and their ECUs.
MIPI White Paper Focuses on Power Efficiency for IoT MIPI's latest white paper, Achieving Power Efficiency in IoT Devices with MIPI I3C, describes how IoT product architects and product designers can use a selected set of MIPI I3C features to achieve their design goals. It includes a brief overview of market trends, an introduction to the I3C protocol and an in-depth examination of selected I3C technical features that are most relevant to power efficiency in IoT devices. SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONIEEE Affiliate Network, the Path to IEEE Standardization for Today's Industry Consortiaby Michelle Hunt, Director, Alliance Management Operations, ISTO As a federation of member programs consisting of consortia, alliances, and trade groups, ISTO offers world class support for collectives involved in standardizing technical solutions which aim to improve technology or development for industry ecosystems. From drafting standards development processes that are open and consensus-based to ensuring strict compliance to processes as a neutral third party to supporting platforms and mechanisms for easy standards distribution and adoption, ISTO supports today’s standardization efforts for technology-focused industry alliances. ITEMS OF INTERESTWhy You Need StandardsArticle from NIST, written by Ben P. Stein, Managing Editor, Public Affairs OfficeWhen we talk about standards in our personal lives, we might think about the quality we expect in things such as restaurants and first dates. But the standards that exist in science and technology have an even greater impact on our lives. Technical standards keep us safe, enable technology to advance, and help businesses succeed. They quietly make the modern world tick and prevent technological problems that you might not realize could even happen. Ethical Considerations of Extended Reality (XR)As XR allows users to see the world in new ways, the autonomous and intelligent systems enabling this emergent field also raise ethical questions about the collection and usage of user data. IEEE SA published a series of white papers on XR ethics drawing insights from global researchers, industry professionals, business leaders, and policymakers. How To Make Autonomous Systems More Transparent and TrustworthyIEEE 7001 standard describes specific, measurable levels of transparency that can be assessed objectively, and identifies compliance that can be determined during system design. IEEE 7001 complements and extends the IEEE 7000 series, which focuses on various aspects of ethics in engineering to enable societal benefit. The IEEE CertifAIEd program was launched to help enable, enhance, and reinforce trust through ethically tenable AI systems.WEBINARS ON HOT TOPICSA Four-Part Webinar Mini-Series: AgeTek InnovationBringing Robots Home to Support the Aging, Healthy, and Assisted Living This four-part webinar mini-series will bring global multi-disciplinary experts to discuss the pragmatic applications of using robotic caregivers and companions to support this aging population.
