Lawmakers in New Jersey are considering a bill that would give doctors discretion over which health conditions qualify for medical marijuana use. It’s been nearly two years since New Jersey rolled out guidelines for how employers should handle marijuana in the workplace. A recent legislative effort in New Jersey seeks to streamline the regulation of cannabis-related products by clearly defining the roles of various state entities and setting stringent requirements for the sale of intoxicating hemp products. In the professional environment, there is a steady increase in employers recognizing the need for programs to provide support for employees with or in recovery from substance use disorders (SUDs). Research by the National Institute on Drug Abuse reveals that individuals in recovery exhibit higher emotional intelligence and empathy, qualities that can cultivate a more compassionate and supportive workplace.
