No images? Click here Welcome to the 13th issue of Fountain Head House School's 'The Splash'! Headteacher updateDear Parents & Carers, As we near the end of this academic year, I would like to draw your attention to some important dates that are coming up soon in the 'dates for your diary' section below. Our last Afternoon Tea of the year is taking place tomorrow, and the topic will be around helping your child to develop a love of reading. We thought this may be useful with the Summer holidays fast approaching. We are also very much looking forward to Sports Day on 7th July, again more details of which you will find further down in this newsletter. These School Community days are such an important part of our school calendar, and we warmly welcome families to attend and spectate. Please do let Kieran know in advance of the day if you are hoping to attend - it is very helpful for us in terms of planning, especially when it comes to making sure we have enough shade if the weather is going to be very sunny! With kind regards, Thereza de Lucca Headteacher Discovering the magic of King ArthurYear 7 pupils recently visited Tintagel in North Cornwall, and enjoyed a fun-packed day learning about the legendary tale of King Arthur. Upcoming dates for your diaryPlease see below some important upcoming events that we have planned for the school, which parents and carers are most welcome to attend:
Chair updateHello everyone, Following on from the last newsletter, I wanted to update you about the work of the Curriculum, Quality and Standards Sub-committee, as in the Governance Chart below:- Amongst other things, this Sub-Committee takes responsibility to: • Annually adopt the Self-Evaluation Form (SEF) and review, approve and monitor the School Development and Improvement Plan (SD&IP) • Review pupil progress • Monitor attendance of pupils/staff/advisors • Review pupil behaviour and attitudes to learning, including: the level of exclusions; behaviour, attendance and bullying • Receive curriculum implementation plans and the impact (lesson observations for curriculum delivery and pupil assessment) • Review, adopt and monitor an overall curriculum policy, its intent, implementation and impact I hope that this makes sense to you all. Julie Dr Julie Smith Chair of the Board Poppy Playtime and Huggy WuggyWe recently sent a letter to all of our Parents & Carers regarding the concerns we have around pupils watching, playing or being exposed to 'Poppy Playtime' games and videos, which feature the 'Huggy Wuggy' character. Just in case you haven't seen the letter, we have included a link to view it below: Sports Day event - Friday 7th JulyWe are very much looking forward to our Sports Day event which will take place on our Sports Field on Friday 7th July. You should have received an invitation which includes the timings for your child's team (yellow, blue or green). If you are unsure, please let us know. Spectators are welcome to bring up to two adults per pupil and any additional children (i.e. siblings) who may wish to attend. We ask that you kindly let us know if you are planning to attend Sports Day, with the names and number of spectators joining you, by emailing Kieran Wash (Lead Sports Instructor) on Kieran.wash@fhhschools.com. Vaping blogFollowing on from our April blog article which looked at what parents and carers can do if their child is using vapes or e-cigarettes, this month we would like to draw your attention to the rise in illegal drugs such as THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and harmful, dangerous ingredients such as lead, nickel and chromium which are increasingly being found in vapes. Duchy College Family Fun DayThe upcoming Family Fun Day at Duchy College at Stoke Climsland, near Callington, is filled with fun 'have a go' activities, but staff will also be on hand to discuss potential post-16 options if you wish. Please click the button below to find out more. Energy drinks on the school siteYou will hopefully have seen the email sent to Parents and Carers recently about the consumption and possession of energy drinks on the school site. However, just in case you missed it, please see the details below: You will no doubt be aware that there has been much news coverage around the dangers of children and young people consuming energy drinks that contain large amounts of caffeine, plus other harmful substances. Particularly following an incident in Wales, where a child had to have their stomach pumped after a 'cardiac episode' as a result of consuming a well-known brand of energy drink which is promoted by YouTube influencers. We have unfortunately been made aware of several outlets locally that are selling energy drinks to under 16s, so we thought it important to remind parents and carers of the concerning short and long-term effects that energy drinks can have on our young people. We recently published a blog article on the school website about the dangers of energy drinks, which you can read here. As we continue to promote Healthy Living through our PSHE curriculum, in the coming days and weeks we will specifically be looking at what energy drinks and caffeine do to the body, and how they can increase feelings of anxiety and cause complications such as heart problems and bone disease. Due to the health concerns associated with the consumption of energy drinks, we will no longer allow energy drinks of any kind to be consumed at or brought into school.
