Sunday Edition
G’day all you lovely lot! It is so good to be back in your inbox on this fine Sunday morning. I (Maddie) had such a wonderful Christmas and New Year break. I did absolutely nothing special other than sleep, swim, read, eat and repeat, but you know what? That was exactly what I needed to rest and recharge so I could get back in here and do a far better job at writing these newsletters. 😉 I hope you all had a lovely break too and I hope you’re all feeling okay. I know the holidays aren’t the best time for everyone, so as life goes back to normal this week, I’m hoping that those of you who struggled are starting to regain some kind of security.
Now, it wouldn’t be a Sunday without my quote of the week, now would it? I’m excited about today’s quote, because it was actually sent to me by one of our wonderful members, member Peter S. Peter had a pretty tough year in 2022, but he finally received some good news at the start of 2023, and he shared this quote with me after he finally received some good news. He said it was something his father used to say to him as a boy.
‘If first you don't succeed, try, try again.’
I am sure many of you have heard this one before, perhaps your parents used to say it to you too. It just reminded me that sometimes we have to keep trying, to keep persisting even when we want to give up. Often, it’s at that very moment in life when you’re ready to give up when the magic happens. I can think of many occasions where I just wanted to stop trying but I gave it one more shot and the magic well and truly happened. So keep this at the front of your mind this year. A big thank you to member Peter S. for sharing this wonderful quote with us. I think it’s a great way to kickstart 2023.
Now then, what happened across Australia and around the world this week?

I came across this post the other day and it got me thinking, does your first job still exist? Telegram boys, lift operators, milkmen, comptometrists, typists, tea ladies, linotype operators, petrol pump attendants, tram conductors, manual switchboard operators and the lavatory man have all disappeared as jobs since the 1950s. The world has changed so drastically, some for good, others not so much. So I’d love to hear from you, does your first job still exist? Tell me all about it here.

A tradie and his mate
When I saw this photo on the forum I couldn’t not feature it in one of our newsletters! It has to be one of the coolest things I’ve even seen. I had no idea little Kookaburras don’t mind getting up close and personal. It looks like this tradie and ‘Kookie’ have one special bond. A big thanks to member @LeonieBird for sharing this incredible photo with us.

A type of blood cell that is made in the bone marrow and found in the blood. Red blood cells contain a protein called haemoglobin, which carries oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body. Checking the number of red blood cells in the blood is usually part of a complete blood cell (CBC) test. It may be used to look for conditions such as anaemia, dehydration, malnutrition, and leukaemia.
