Gungahlin United Football Club Inc.
Club Statement - 26 November 2025

Dear Members,

It is with deep sadness that I share the official closure of Gungahlin United Football Club.

Last night, the Special General Meeting was held at the Hellenic Club for our members. Together, we faced the difficult truth of our financial position and were asked to make one of the hardest decisions in our club’s history. In a moment filled with emotion, members raised their hands — not to end a club, but to honour it with dignity, respect, and gratitude. A club that was so much more than football; it was a home for families, children, volunteers, and players of all ages.

Our story began on 27 September 2002, when the Gungahlin Junior Soccer Club (ACT) was formed, embracing much of the identity of the senior Juventus club — but dedicated solely to giving local boys and girls a place to play the game they loved.

On 25 January 2005, we officially became Gungahlin United Football Club (GUFC), proudly aligning with the national football identity and growing to embrace seniors, masters, men’s and women’s teams.

In 2011, GUFC formed an alliance with Canberra City SC, entering National Premier League (NPL) competitions. This partnership laid the foundation for a bright future of elite football. In 2015, GUFC was granted a stand-alone NPL licence — a milestone that allowed us to field teams from Under 12s through to First Grade, across both men’s and women’s competitions.

What followed were years of immense pride — not just in trophies or results, but in the pathways we created, the friendships we built, and the players we developed. From MiniRoos to masters, from community fields to NPL grand finals, GUFC helped thousands of players grow not only in football, but in confidence, teamwork, leadership, and character.

Our success was never defined by trophies — it lived in the smiles of our children, the dedication of our volunteers, the passion of our coaches, the loyalty of our families, and the black-and-white pride worn across Canberra.

To every player who put on the GUFC jersey, to every parent who stood in the cold with pride, to every volunteer who gave countless hours simply because you believed in our community — thank you. This club was built by you, carried by you, and remembered because of you.

While GUFC will no longer continue as an organisation, its legacy will always live on — through every player who keeps chasing the ball, every friendship formed on our fields, and every family whose hearts now hold just a little bit of black, white, and Yellow.

We wish every member the very best and hope you continue to find joy in the game that brought us all together.
