Saturday Edition
Well hello and good morning everyone, welcome to another stellar Saturday morning. Look, it might not be stellar weather for you all, seeing some of our beloved country is being hammered with storms, but regardless of the weather, we can have a great Saturday, can’t we? If you can, get outside and enjoy some fresh air, if not, enjoy a nice cuppa inside away from the bloody rain! Plus we can think of a few good things to read with that cuppa, like I don’t know, maybe the rest of this newsletter 😉
Now we have quite a few things for you today, starting off with the answer to yesterday’s riddle! Let's remind ourselves of it shall we?
Old Mother Twitchett had but one eye, and a long tail which she let fly; Every time she went over a gap, she left a bit of her tail in a trap.
Did you get it? It's… a needle and thread! Oh you guys are just too good. We really thought this one would have you stumped! Once again we would like to thank Sherill L. for sending us this one. It was an absolute cracker! If you managed to get the right answer (as many of you did), head down below and enjoy your shoutout!
Now onto our next segment for the day, ‘What the Grandkids Would Say’. Today, we are taking a look at the term ‘catch these hands’. Now here at the SDC, we never condone violence. Fighting only ever ends in tears and injuries (not that we have any experience, but you know). However, if you have someone warn you that you’re about to ‘catch these hands’, stay clear. This term refers to physical hand to hand fighting, in particular punching. The idea behind
it is that you might catch their punches with your face or body. Fortunately, many people often use it in a joking around manner, rather than in the circumstance of a real threat. For example, if you’re eating some delicious arnott’s bikkies, and your friend takes the last scotch finger, you could say “you better hand over that scotch finger, or else you might catch these hands”. Of course we advise that nobody actually resorts to physical violence, particularly over a wee lil bikkie and you know what folks, give this one a go
with the grandkids and see how they react. We bet they’ll have a good laugh.
Now, what's happening across Australia and the world today?
-
Can’t decide what to get on your next Maccas run? One man has tried, tasted and ranked every single burger on the McDonald's Menu, so that you don't have to.
-
This $6 must have item from Chemist Warehouse has gone viral and now it’s flying off the shelves!
-
After Peter Dinklage slammed them for their hypocritical Snow White reboot but Disney has decided to give Minnie Mouse a makeover, and not everyone is happy about it...
-
Tennis fans all over the internet have been giggling away after watching coach Steve Waugh munch down an ice cold snack whilst
watching our golden girl, Ash Barty.
-
Prince Harry is making use of his wife Meghan Markle’s celebrity connections and by teaming up with this Tennis star for a virtual summit for his mental health start up Better Up.
-
The other day we introduced to you a method of falling asleep within 2 minutes. Well now, we have decided to follow up with some additional sleep hacks and tips!
-
Move over Ice-Cream sandwiches. One clever cook has created her own deliciously mouthwatering treat, using nothing but a Kmart
Pie-Maker...
-
While Woolworths have not held any of their customers accidentally hostage, they have greatly disappointed one customer after they found something disturbing in their packet of lamb steaks.
-
Another Woolies meat customer has sparked a massive online debate over whether their mince is even edible. What do you think?
-
And finally, Andrew O'Keefe, best known for formerly hosting ‘Deal or No Deal’, has been charged for apparently kicking and choking a
woman…
And that’s it for the news of today! Be sure to stick around though, as we always have more in store for our lovely members! Today’s joke, for example, brought to us by member @Wendy, will have you on the edge of your seat, right until the hilarious twist at the end. Brilliant stuff @Wendy!
Don’t forget that we are currently running the SDC Photo Competition. If you haven’t entered, all you need to do is head over to the thread that we have linked below, upload one or a couple of your favourite piccies (that you have taken yourself of course), tell us a little about it or them, and boom! The winner will be announced on the 11th of Feb and will receive $100 bucks to spend at Coles or Woolies! Not bad eh? So what are you waiting for? Click here and get posting
And of course, as always, stay safe and happy reading!

Who here remembers using solvol hand soap back in the day? How about their old commercial, “Wash your hands, Geoffrey, with the Solvol Geoffrey”. Too bad the original solvol soap has been discontinued!

Have you ever bought something from the supermarket only to discover that it was not what you expected? If so, you’re not alone. We’ve all had that experience, like this Woolworths shopper who shared his frustrations on Facebook after making a shocking find in a pack of lamb steaks. Shopper Philip believed he was purchasing a packet of four lamb steaks when he visited the Woolworths supermarket. When he got home, he discovered something far less appetising. One of the steaks appeared to be mostly fat! How did this happen? Click the button below to know what Woolworths has to say about the disappointing find.

Kimchi, a staple food in Korean cuisine, is a traditional side dish of salted and fermented vegetables, such as napa cabbage and Korean radish, made with a widely varying selection of seasonings, including gochugaru (Korean chilli powder), spring onions, garlic, ginger, and jeotgal (salted seafood), etc. It is also used in a variety of soups and stews.
