October 7th and its aftermath have left an indelible mark on the youth of Israel, both Jewish and Palestinian. For the past two and a half months, with the help of an American professor, Robert Vogel, teens from a number of Jewish and Palestinian communities in Israel were encouraged to write about their identities and process their feelings. Meeting weekly to share their work with one another, and compose poetry together, these young people forged a unique and unexpected bond. Heart of a Nation had the privilege of hosting six of these remarkable students, as well as two of their facilitators, Steven Aiello and Amal Buqai, in Washington, DC, April 12-16. The teens are eager to interact with students and faculty at American University, The George Washington University, and Georgetown University. They also shared their experiences of the past several months with students at four area high schools, and several community gatherings.
