A $12.2 million project at Western Australia's two southernmost ports is upgrading berth infrastructure to support growing trade for the region. Leading civil engineering firm Freyssinet will work with Southern Ports to deliver a suite of remediation works underneath two berths at the port authority's Esperance and Albany ports. The works will include hydro demolition across sections of Berth 1 at the Port of Esperance and Berth 3 at the Port of Albany followed by concrete replacements. The two berths are critical for grain exports, which accounted for 93 per cent of the 6.7 million tonnes of trade facilitated over them last year, with figures expected to succeed that this year. Following a competitive tender process, Freyssinet were awarded the contract and commenced work in Esperance in late 2025 and have since relocated to Albany. The program of works will be delivered across three stages over the course of three years to ensure no interruption to port operations or customers. The Freyssinet team will relocate multiple times between the ports to complete the works. Source: WA Gov | Image: iStock (halbergman

CSIRO has launched the Thailand Australia Venture Exchange Program, a new initiative designed to connect agrifood startups and small to medium sized enterprises from Australia and Thailand to support business growth, research collaboration and the commercialisation of new food and agriculture technologies. Delivered by CSIRO in partnership with Thailand’s Food Innopolis, part of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and the Research University Network (RUN), the 12 week program is open to eligible organisations operating across the agrifood value chain. The initiative aims to help participating businesses expand into new markets while strengthening collaboration between researchers, industry and investors in both countries. It focuses on supporting organisations developing solutions for sustainable agrifood systems and future food production. Participants will receive a combination of online and in-person learning, funded travel to Australia and Thailand during two market immersion weeks, coaching to identify research and commercial opportunities, access to research, investor and customer networks, and support to develop market entry strategies. The program is suited to Australian startups and SMEs, together with Thai organisations affiliated with RUN Thailand, that are developing technologies or services in areas including agrifood innovation systems, food sustainability, agriculture, aquaculture, future foods and alternative proteins. Applications for the first round close on 31 July 2026, with up to 15 companies expected to be selected, split evenly between Australia and Thailand. Additional rounds are planned for 2027. The campaign is currently featuring in 144 television spots across the tournament, including key placements in Australia’s group stage matches and the Final on July 20. Alongside a new creative launched on 1 July, it’s driving strong results for the Australian beef industry at a significant scale. In the opening weeks of the tournament alone, Aussie Beef has been on centre plate for more than 18.7 million viewers, with campaign delivery tracking at 89% across total TV and BVOD (Broadcast Video on Demand), highlighting strong early performance. This platform is reinforcing Aussie Beef’s premium positioning and iconic status, reaching mass audiences at scale, including 4.5 million Australians who watched the Socceroos match against Paraguay, and maintaining consistent brand presence throughout the tournament. The Australian Government has announced two investments totalling almost $2.5 million to support the continued development of agricultural traceability systems across Australia. The funding includes $1.95 million to establish a successor to the Australian Agricultural Traceability Governance Group (AATGG), and $534,791 for Standards Australia to support the national rollout of the Australian Agricultural Traceability Protocol (AATP). Traceability systems play an important role in supporting agricultural supply chains by improving data sharing, strengthening product provenance and helping maintain access to international markets. Agricultural, fisheries and forestry exports were forecast to reach around $86 billion in 2025 to 26. The $1.95 million grant has been awarded to the National Farmers’ Federation, which will establish a new national governance group to progress traceability leadership and coordination previously undertaken by the AATGG. The group will bring together governments, industry and supply chain participants to improve Australia’s agricultural traceability systems. Standards Australia will receive $534,791 to support the national rollout of the AATP, a digital standard designed to enable consistent data sharing across agricultural supply chains.
