An update from The Campbell Clinic No images? Click here The weirdest August ever Hi all, Here's a little update from The Campbell Clinic on what has been one of the weirdest Augusts I've had so far. For various reasons, I took holidays earlier this year to go to the Euros and Glastonbury, so I'm entirely around in August for the first time in the longest time I can remember. It's probably the first time since I've worked at The Campbell Clinic in either of its iterations. This is because my kids are now older and need me for less, and we've already been away and done some bits and bobs in different places. So, now I find myself in and around on a day-to-day basis in a month when everybody is out and about, and it gives me a fantastic chunk of time to see what's going on, reflect, and plan for the second half of the year going forward. Learning from Failure Conference So, in terms of updating all our friends and colleagues out in dentistry land, the biggest thing on our horizon, I guess, is the weekend we have in November, on the 23rd, where we have our charity ball and our Learning from Failure Conference. Things are beginning to pick up pace with this; the ball is already well booked, as is the Learning from Failure Conference, but there are still opportunities and spaces, and all the details about the Learning from Failure Conference are here. This year, we'll have John Gibson speaking again, one of my old mentors and friends who is an extraordinary individual who founded The Canmore Trust after the loss of his son to suicide. John has been involved in and around everything related to The Campbell Clinic and my career for the longest time and provides some of the most show-stopping talks and lectures. We obviously have Eddie the Eagle - No jokes proper, Eddie the Eagle doing a lecture on learning from failure together with some other brilliant individuals like Josh Sharpling, whose dad is an extremely famous CDT, but Josh has become a brilliant dentist in his own right and wants to talk about different personalities and how to overcome challenges in dentistry. For one night only, I will be giving a learning-from-failure talk on what happened when we built the practice, all the secret notes I wrote to myself, all the terrible things that happened, and how we almost went completely out of business (family and Clinic). We're not the only people who will be here; there are multiple speakers and a day of extraordinary education and reflection leading straight into the charity ball. I hope you'll use the charity ball for your staff nights out for Christmas, as it's a Christmas fancy dress event. I also hope to see you at the Learning from Failure conference. You can book here! Peer Review and ITI Study Club Another evening of education we have is our peer review on the 11th of September. This will be a massive draw, and we expect it to be really busy and well over full several times. Chris Barrow is coming back. Chris is always fantastic, and he will be coming to talk to us about what to do with Prices, Profit and Production in an economy in which dental practice profit margins are evaporating. Chris has always been thought-provoking and controversial, and this is one not to miss. Everyone is always interested in making their business as successful as possible, and Chris's interpretation and instruction on this will be invaluable. Our peer review groups are meetings for dentists and team members, and as we expect this one to be super busy, please let us know in advance if you'd like to come by emailing Millie – millie@campbell-clinic.co.uk Our peer review meetings are tied in with all the different events we have for our dental practice colleagues, both for teams and for dentists themselves. Our ITI study club formats will be reinvigorated. In essence, these are dental implant study clubs where you can attend twice as a non-member guest before joining the ITI. One of our upcoming meetings will be with the Focus Photography team to provide instruction and teaching on collecting some of the best clinical dental photography. This is the extraordinary photography scheme we have implemented in Clinicinic. I would recommend it to anyone interested in photography with their team. The peer-review meetings and dental buying group format are going from strength to strength. At peer review, we encourage all our dentists, friends, and any team members who are interested to come and attend the meetings for a get-together and some wonderful educational events. These are free for anyone who wants to attend. Other Educational Events Finally, in conjunction with FMC, our Dentistry Live productions provide live clinical dentistry every month in different subjects. If you're interested in any of these or any of the previous editions of this, you can see them here. As far as our own education offerings are concerned, my colleague Beatriz Sanchez will soon provide a global webinar for Geistlich on ridge preservation procedures, which is a method of preserving anatomy in the architecture and the extraction sockets to provide better treatment for patients for either implants, dentures or bridges. It is a fantastically simple yet effective, wonderful way to treat patients with the best possible outcomes, and she is running a ridge preservation masterclass here for general dental practitioner colleagues at The Academy. The first sold out immediately; the second date is the 5th of December if you're interested. Finally, for anyone keen to explore complex implant dentistry and move from an advanced to a more complex level, our Year Three Dental Implant Course cohort will begin again in December. Full details are here. Back to my amazing August, where I'm being undisturbed and getting through all my tasks. I suspect most of our colleagues in dentistry will be off on holiday, so we hope you have a wonderful time. We'll see you in September. |
