Epic Update Companions Now Available
Prepare for the Epic Update on Feb. 13Update Companions are now available for the Sunday, Feb. 13 Epic Update.
The role-based Companions include summaries of new features and enhancements, with callouts of the top changes for your role highlighted on the first page. To view your Update Companion, press F1 while logged in to Epic to access your Learning Home. You can also visit it.houstonmethodist.org/epicupdate for links to all Companions. Reminders: - If you have multiple roles, you may have more than one Learning Home and Companion. Be sure to review the appropriate material for all your roles.
- The Update Companion banner disappears after you click Close. To review a Companion again, after you close the window or to view Companions for other roles, visit it.houstonmethodist.org/epicupdate/.
- Use the guided
activities in your Update Companion to experience and practice new workflows in the Epic Playground. For instructions and a list of user IDs and passwords for all roles, view the Accessing the Epic Playground tip sheet.

2 to 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 In preparation for the Update, Epic will experience a planned downtime from 2 to 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13. During the downtime, access Epic Read-Only. Note: Data in Epic Read-Only is current until the downtime begins. You can’t document or place orders in Epic Read-Only. For more details, review the Planned Downtime Instructions.

Easier for You to Request Printer Services: Visit itsupport.houstonmethodist.org
Effective Friday, Jan. 28Beginning Friday, Jan. 28, if you need support with printer services, be sure to visit itsupport.houstonmethodist.org to submit your own tickets. There is a new drop-down menu where you can specify the type of printer service you need. This will direct your ticket to the right team faster, so you can get the support you need. Here are the options you’ll see under the Printer Service Type (see red box in screenshot below): - Connect to an HM Printer: Connect your computer/workstation to an HM printer.
- HM Desktop Printer Support: Service on a desk printer (for your use only).
- HM Network Printer Support: Service on a network printer (shared by multiple people).
- Label/Armband Printer: Service on label/armband printers.
- Toner Replacement: Order toner.
- Other: Provide details in the
Conversation History section.

Hackers Are Using Adobe to Send Phish EmailsHackers are sending phish, or malicious emails, from an Adobe Creative Cloud account. The email asks you to log on to view an important document that requires your signature. When you log on, you're prompted to enter your Office 365 and/or Gmail credentials and valuable information is stolen.
Best practice is to not click on any documents from unknown senders.

Two New Properties Added to LDA NG/OG Feeding TubeTwo new properties, Post-extubation and Patient underwent PEG placement, have been added to the Removal Reason for LDA NASOGASTRIC/OROGASTRIC (NG/OG) feeding tube in Epic. This change helps prepare for the systemwide launch of feeding tube securement devices that are already in ICUs/IMUs.

Effective Sunday, Feb. 13 Effective Sunday, Feb. 13, you’ll see a new streamlined Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ) that aligns with the CMS Model Questionnaire. Review this tip sheet for more information.

5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 to 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13Some Epic functions will be unavailable, and no changes or enhancements can be made from 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 to 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13. You’ll still be able to work in Epic as usual, but you won't be able to: - Apply filters in Chart Review.
- Create, edit and share NoteWriter macros, SmartPhrases and SmartLinks.
- Create and edit In Basket QuickActions.

To help you communicate with your team, role-specific materials are available for you to share during meetings, huddles and rounding. In addition, encourage staff to review their Companions and follow the guided activities in the Epic Playground. For Neonatologists
New Neonatal Lab Test for Band Count
Effective TodayStarting today, when a band count is needed, order using the new CBC with manual differential [LAB3637] lab test, available for patients 0-30 days old. The current CBC with platelet and differential [LAB293] test will no longer include a band count.
For Providers
Haiku/Canto 9.9 Required
Before Feb. 13 Epic UpdateTo continue accessing Haiku/Canto after the Feb. 13 Epic Update, make sure you’re using Haiku/Canto 9.9 or later. Prior versions won’t be supported after the Epic Update. For instructions, read the Update Haiku/Canto to the Latest Version tip sheet.
