Sunday Edition
Good morning, members and happy Sunday! Here we are, eh? At the end of another week, how crazy is that? I cannot believe we are almost at the end of January. I swear I was sitting down playing Monopoly Deal on New Year's Eve just yesterday… My oh my, time really does fly when you’re having fun! So thank you to all of you for making my January so great.
Now, you all know how much I love our Sunday newsletters, and that’s not just because I get the chance to write them (although I do love writing them) it’s also because I get to take a look at all the stories you lot loved this week and unpack our ‘quote of the week’. This week’s quote of the week is a simple one, but sometimes I think simple is best.
‘No rain. No flowers.’
I don’t think there’s too much that needs to be unpacked with this quote. I just wanted to pop it in today’s newsletter as a reminder that ‘rain’ aka bad things do happen, but without the ‘bad’, there’s no ‘good’. So, if you’re struggling today remember first and foremost that you’re not alone. In fact, you’re one of over 200,000 Australians who are a part of this community. And secondly, that whatever it is you’re going through, it will be okay. The flowers will come out eventually.
Now, what happened across Australia and around the world this week?

Last week, I posted a ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment on our forum asking you all to share with me whether your first job still exists! So many of you gave such great stories of all the old jobs you had back in the day, so I wanted to share some of them with the rest of you! This beautiful story was posted by member @Nana Zorak, thank you so much for sharing this with us all! ‘Well most of us sewers continued to ply our trade in some way or another. I came to Australia in 1965 & I spent my first 12 years in Cairns sewing for others first as an alteration hand & window dresser in a dress shop, then as a manager in a bridal workshop, and then my own bridal
business. During this time I also managed to fit in a stint at the local amateur Choral Society as a costume designer for their productions & as an actress as such. The highlight came when I was asked to arrange costumes for Cairns Centenary in 1977 as I had to dress people in 1877 Fashions. What fun we had.’

The Royal Palace Guards
Today’s incredible picture of the day was posted on our forum by member @dragabagalong, here is the caption they posted along with the photograph: ‘The Royal Palace Guards in Seoul, South Korea. These ceremonial guards stand at the entrance to the Royal Palace Grounds and go through a "Changing of the Guards" act at certain times of the day. It's very colourful. The Palace Grounds are full of amazing buildings, especially when covered in snow.’ Wow, @dragabagalong thank you so much for sharing this with us! I have never seen anything
like it, and I just adore the brightly coloured uniforms!

I had a problem with my computer yesterday, so I called Eric the 11-year-old kid next door.
Eric clicked a couple of buttons and immediately corrected the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him…
Oh, this is a funny one! Those kids are cheeky, aren’t they? A big thanks to member @Skipton for sharing this with us all. Click here to read the rest of the joke.

The heaviest land mammal is the African bush elephant, which weighs up to 10.1 tonnes. It measures 3-4m at the shoulder and consumes around 230 kilograms of vegetation a day. Its tusks have been known to reach 2.7m in length, although in modern populations they are most commonly recorded at a length of 0.6–0.9 metres. Now that’s one big elephant!
