Monday Edition
Indeed it is the beginning of yet another week! We love our Mondays here at the SDC because you know what Monday means? We get to challenge you lot with another riddle. This one we will admit is a tough one to start the week off with, so let’s hope you had a well rested weekend, because you’re going to need that brain power today. Here we go:
An archaeologist discovers two ancient humans frozen in ice. He knew immediately that they were Adam and Eve. How did he know?
Okay so I (Maddie), will be the first to admit that when member Michael K. sent this riddle in I attempted to answer it and well, let’s just say the answer is not ‘because there was an apple frozen with them’. So take that as my free hint to you, you can rule out that answer. As always, if you think you know the answer, post it in our forum here. Good luck, ladies and gents!
Now, what’s happening across Australia and around the world today?

Who here agrees? There’s nothing quite like listening to a song from your childhood and being transported back in time like nothing at all has changed.

The practice of supermarkets selling prescription medication is becoming more common around the world, but the concept is banned in Australia. However, Australia’s leading doctors’ group, the Australian Medical Association (AMA), wants to change that situation and has also floated the idea of vending machines selling prescription medication in GP clinics (it’s about time).
In a discussion paper titled the Future of Dispensing, which the AMA released last Monday, the body called for careful consideration to be given to the strict ownership rules for pharmacies, saying increased competition could bring prices down for patients. As someone (Maddie), who is on prescription medication, I can certainly vouch for this, knowing this would make my life a whole lot easier. But what do you think of it?

Compare Health Cover Now
Health insurance rates have gone up. Again. That’s two increases in 12 months, or an average of $230.26 more to pay every year for hard working Aussie families.
But what few people realise is that there are government rebates out there that could save you hundreds of dollars per year on your cover. For eligible Aussies, the starting cost of a combined hospital & extras policy comes in at under $23 / week (or $3.22 per day) once the rebate has been claimed.
Select your year of birth to see if you're eligible for the latest government rebates to get health insurance from under $23 a week.

This isn’t our normal main story, we know! But we wanted to put it in because we had no idea of the health impacts of not cleaning your dishwasher properly. Choice, who is the same company who released the ‘Shonky Awards’ for the worst Aussie products of 2021 last week, has come out with a fantastic piece on how to clean and maintain your dishwasher.
According to Choice, your dishwasher will not last longer than 10 years if you don't take the time for a few minutes of maintenance. From removing odours and mould (yes! Your dishwasher could be filled with mould without you knowing) to general maintenance, here are our best tips to help you keep your dishwasher running trouble free.

As Jill Green approached her late fifties, she was looking forward to retirement, with a chance to slow down and travel. Instead, for the last four years, she has been raising six grandchildren aged 4 to 13 on her own in Newcastle, NSW. “Sometimes I just want to cry, sit down, and just think … I can’t do this anymore,” she said. “But then I look into their faces and just think, nah, I’ll get over this in a minute.”
Jill is an informal kinship carer. These are family members – grandparents, aunts, uncles, even siblings – who look after children who cannot live with their parents, but are not in formal Out of Home Care (OOHC) like foster care. Unfortunately, the distinction between formal and informal kinship care has huge consequences when it comes to financial support and it’s time this financial gap closes and allowance is provided.
