Kaya ,

There was a big focus on India this week, with Tourism WA joining Tourism Minister, the Hon. Reece Whitby MLA, and Perth Airport in Delhi and Gurugram for meetings with key trade and aviation partners. This growing market is WA’s eighth largest when it comes to visitor numbers, with 38,000 Indian visitors travelling to the state in the year ending June 2025. Among the packed schedule was a networking function for key distribution partners and media, to promote WA as a dream destination to this priority market.

Back home and WWE mania has officially taken over Perth! The WWE Superstars arrived in town on Wednesday and have hit the ground running meeting fans, undertaking famils and participating in media opportunities as they promote WA to their millions of followers. Supported by Tourism WA, this Australian-exclusive WWE weekend takeover includes three events from Friday, 10 October to Monday, 13 October 2025. Thousands of out-of-state fans are expected to travel to WA for the events and surrounding festivities, which include a purpose-built light trail between Forrest Place and RAC Arena.

We know the impact WWE's Elimination Chamber: Perth had on local tourism, hospitality and accommodation businesses, with major events acting as a key driver of hotel occupancy rates.

This focus on bookable blockbusters has paid off, with new statistics showing WA led the nation in terms of hotel occupancy. STR statistics show WA’s occupancy rate hit 77.5 per cent in 2024–25, ahead of the national average of 72 per cent. These strong stats not only reiterate the power of major events, but the wider impact our tourism sector has on WA economy.

Warm regards,

Managing Director Anneke Brown and the Executive Management Team.

WA leads the nation in accommodation performance
New data from Australia’s leading provider of accommodation data, STR, shows that WA had the highest occupancy rate of all Australian states and territories in the 2024–25 financial year. WA’s hotel occupancy sat at 77.5 per cent, driven by strong year-on-year growth in demand. WA also led the nation in year-on-year growth of its accommodation average daily rate, up 3.5 per cent, and revenue per available room which grew by 7.2 per cent. These fantastic results are a strong indicator of the success of Tourism WA’s events and marketing strategies, showing WA is outperforming the country for hotel occupancy.
