Big success at the Weekend Weed Swap!

Our most popular Weed Swap yet took place on Sunday 25 May at the Cove Civic Centre - and what a day it was!

🌱 110 households swapped Gazanias and Fountain Grass (declared weeds) for beautiful native plants
🌱 Many attendees were surprised to learn that Gazanias and Fountain grass are weeds
🌱 1000 native plants found new homes in local gardens
🌱 Locals are now spreading the word to neighbours who are also removing Gazanias and planting natives
🌱 We had fantastic conversations about weed control, verge gardening local biodiversity and council support

Thanks to everyone who came along - together, we're making a big difference for our local environment!

Celebrating the Tree of the Month

A regular walker at Oaklands Wetlands, Jane is drawn to this beautiful tree as it greets her on the start of her walk. She also loves the beautiful clusters of bell-shaped flowers which attract bees in the springtime.

Standing tall and resilient this tree has seen many seasons over the years.

Jane is a dedicated environmental activist and stands up for the trees across many campaigns. We love her passion and enthusiasm for protecting our precious environment.

This tree is a Brachychiton acerifolius x populneus ‘Bella Pink’.

Get ready for Plastic Free July

Here's two reasons to ditch plastic this July:

  1. Global plastic production is expected to triple by 2060
  2. 90% of all plastics are made from fossil fuels - a finite resource

Whether your far along in your plastic free journey or just starting, everyone can make a difference.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Swap disposable razors for reusable alternatives
  • Choose natural fibre fabrics to help reduce microplastics
  • Buy less - avoiding disposable products and packaging has a huge impact

Share your Plastic Free July commitment with a friend and make an impact!
