Thanks to your valuable contributions, we have been able to continue to bring much needed Humanitarian Aid to the Wayuu Community in the area of the Venezuelan-Colombian border. With your help we have continued to provide food and nutritional support to help the children recover from malnourishment keeping them healthy and protecting them against illness and disease during the pandemic. We have established important alliances with Center For Disaster Philanthropy providing thousands of children with daily nutritional drinks. Our alliance with CDP also included the acquisition of a fresh water well as part of a plan to improve the clean water supply for the communities. We received donations of numerous medical supplies that have been distributed to the communities in Venezuela. We are distributing 1,500 PPE for medical personnel and 5,000 masks for the children plus 500 gallons of sanitizer and rubbing alcohol. We have also acquired a flatbed truck that is helping us bring these supplies to the community. Currently we are feeding more than 17,500 children daily through our extraordinary partnerships with World Central Kitchen, ACCESO, Giustra Foundation, Frank Giustra, Chef Jose Andres and Aid Live. Thanks to the help from the Clinton Foundation we have received a donation from Clean The World of 110,000 bars of soap which are being distributed directly to the people in the indigenous communities and to organizations serving the vulnerable communities in Venezuela. None of this would have been possible without your generous help and the help we have received from our allies and other organizations that believe in the mission of The Wayuu Taya team. Our goal going forward is to continue to bring humanitarian aid by making The Wayuu Taya Foundation a sustainable organization through our Apüna (Path) Project by building a Mini World. The Apüna Project will feature expanded opportunities to grow, harvest and access healthy fresh produce and also include a learning center that engages and involves the community in farming, nutrition, trading and other vocations. Through our work we have been able to experience how the pandemic has deepened the humanitarian crisis. We have fortified our incredible team and volunteers, focusing on saving lives and creating a positive impact during this increasingly difficult time, but there is still work to do. It is imperative that we continue to deliver food, safe drinking water and supplies to the Wayuu Communities near the borders that are at higher risk of malnutrition and disease. We know that if we continue to work together we can save countless lives. We thank you and we wish you and your families a happy, healthy and safe holiday season. Patricia Velasquez |
