Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month!
Did You Know Career Choices has a Spanish Edition?
National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from September 15 to October 15, recognizes the contributions and achievements of Hispanic Americans. Not only is the month an ideal time for students to learn about influential Hispanic Americans, it’s also a great chance for students who are Hispanic to feel represented.
One possible way to recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans is with the two pieces in Possibilities by Mexican-American poet Gary Soto: "The Savings Book" and "Looking for Work."
The Spanish translation of Career Choices is used by schools to provide support and guidance to students in their native language as they build a foundation for a successful future.
Using the translated Career Choices series text alongside My10yearPlan.com® and the Workbook and Portfolio in English encourages English-Language Learners to read the same concepts and instructions in both Spanish and English, bolstering learning and comprehension. With all 288 pages of Career Choices translated into Spanish, it’s easier for educators to teach Spanish-speaking students, and it’s easier for the students to gain value from the lessons.

Resource of the Week: Resources for Teachers to Recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month
One of the ways teachers can recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month is by helping students learn about the stories of influential Hispanic Americans. Several national organizations compiled a collection of resources for teachers to recognize this important month and inspire students as they learn about what impact they want to leave.
School Spotlight: Students Discover Value in Education at River City High School
River City High School was awarded a Career Choices Medal for the sixth year in a row in 2022 for their outstanding life- and career-planning program.
“Instead of hearing this question all the time: ‘Why do I have to take math? I hate math, or I hate English, or whatever,’" said Marlaina Schroeder Spivey, a teacher at River City High School. “Instead of that, students are walking into the counseling office and advocating for themselves. That was the biggest change.”
