Letter from the Executive Director
As of this email, Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta is honored to have served 293 nonprofit organizations with tens of thousands of hours in free legal services in 2023. That’s a value of approximately $4.5 million dollars for our nonprofit clients. In turn, our clients provide programs and services for millions of Georgia residents in need. With PBPA, nonprofits have access to the same high-quality and specialized legal services as private companies. They receive this legal support without having to divert funding away from their
programs—programs that provide services for refugees, veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, and those experiencing food insecurity among many others.
Music Education Group is one of those nonprofit clients: "Thanks to your hard work, we feel confident that we are compliant with the State of Georgia requirements for non-profit organizations. Your dedication to our cause has made a significant impact on our organization. We are also grateful for your generosity and commitment to making a difference in the community.” If you have benefited from PBPA’s work, either as a volunteer, client, podcast listener or webcast attendee, or you simply value the work that we do for Georgia’s nonprofit community, please make a financial contribution to support our work in 2024 and beyond.
Your gift of any amount today will give immeasurable peace of mind to nonprofit organizations who are and will become stronger because of the free legal assistance they have received through PBPA. Happy Holidays,
Rachel Spears
Executive Director
We'd like to congratulate Robyn Miller on receiving the Rita A. Sheffey Public Interest Award. The award is given each year to a Georgia attorney whose accomplishments reflect selfless public service. As Senior Corporate/Tax Counsel at PBPA for over 15 years, Robyn acts as outside general counsel to over 300 nonprofits and serves as a resource to PBPA’s volunteer attorneys. She also manages our Nonprofit Legal Check Ups which involve evaluating the legal health of approximately 50 nonprofits a year.
Shoutouts to our Volunteers Thank you to the more than 900 volunteers who have signed up for a pro bono project in 2023! We could not do this work without you.

To: Sakia Delaney, Troutman Pepper
Simple words cannot express enough the “Thanks” we wish to say to you for the thoroughness of the professional support you provided to us as an organization the past few months. Your patience with the length of the process and the high standards we all wanted to insure we were meeting, meant a lot to me, as Board Chair; and the collective us, as an organization. From: Jeremiah's Place
To: Eduardo Martinez (UPS) Jennifer Manning and Stephanie Hillhouse (Coca-Cola) Suzanne Thompson (King & Spalding)
Thank you so much for your time and expertise regarding the Jeremiah's Place Transitional Housing Program. We learned a lot from our audit and have goals for completing as soon as possible. We are grateful for your input. God bless! From: Elite

To: Kristin A. Taylor, McDermott Will & Emery
I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your assistance in helping us update our policies. Your pro bono support has been invaluable to us, and we cannot thank you enough for your efforts. I also have some good news to share with you. After I submitted the Volunteer Handbook, which the other partnership volunteers updated, our insurance coverage was reinstated to the previous level.
Client Profile: Special Kneads & Treats
Special Kneads & Treats began its journey in 2008 when co-founders Tempa and Michael Kohler started thinking about plans for their son who has Fragile X Syndrome. They soon realized that there were few options available for adults with special needs as they aged out of county-supported programs. To address this need, Tempa and Michael created their own nonprofit bakery in Lawrenceville, GA, serving specialty goods while providing special needs adults a place to learn a skill and develop a sense of accountability and pride. Staff
members gain valuable work experience and training to encourage self-confidence, a sense of value, and the opportunity to enjoy success and socialization. As Michael says about their core mission: “Everyone kneads to be kneaded.” Click here to read more about Special Kneads & Treats
