NEWS UPDATE

19 June 2026

Publishers note

When Lakeside Marine advised its dealers late in May that its tenure as distributor for Tohatsu outboards was coming to an end after 37 years, there was naturally considerable speculation about who would take the reins.

This week, Power Equipment announced its new agreement as the distributor for Australia and New Zealand. Power Equipment’s product portfolio is both considerable and admirable, and this appointment further embeds the company as a key and significant member of our industry. We thank Lakeside Marine for its long service, and welcome Power Equipment in its new role.

I cannot deny that, at times, I overly immerse myself in industry data and statistics. It is not that I like numbers that much, but I do find that good data empowers better decision making, based on evidence rather than emotion or whim.

On that note, congratulations to the Marina Industries Association on the release of two important industry research works, and can I say assets, namely the 2025 Health of the Australian Marina Industry Survey (HAMIS), and the 2026 MIA Employment & Salary Survey. Members of the MIA will no doubt be scouring the pages for additional market intelligence to help inform and empower their businesses.

Finally, my thanks to everyone who has engaged with me regarding the Australian International Boat Show. We are responding to all enquiries immediately, or as soon as we can, and again invite anyone with questions or interest in the event to contact me or any of the team directly.

We do hope you enjoy this week’s news.
