From record-breaking visitor spend, to seasonal non-stop flights, it's been another week of milestones in WA the Dream State.
New figures released by Tourism Research Australia (TRA) on Wednesday revealed our visitor economy has broken yet another record with $17.9 billion spent in WA by visitors in the Year Ending (YE) March 2024, an increase of $200 million compared to YE December 2023. Another major achievement has been reached with international visitor spend surpassing the 2019 value for the first time, $2.5 billion, or three per cent greater than the pre-pandemic value. China has also reclaimed its pre-pandemic position as WA's top market when ranked by visitor spend, reaching $303 million in YE March 2024. Particularly of note, WA was the top performing state in Australia by
total visitor spend versus 2019, with growth of 32 per cent, compared to the total national growth of 25 per cent. This is a true testament to the dedication of our high-performing industry. As a combined Dream Team, we are making excellent progress towards our aspirational goal set out in WAVES 2033 to reach a $25 billion visitor economy by 2033. In other great news, visitors can now swap the hustle and bustle of Singapore for the pure sands of Cable Beach in a seamless non-stop connection, after the inaugural non-stop flight between Singapore and Broome landed earlier this week.
The commencement of this seasonal service is a significant aviation win for Western Australia. Singapore is WA’s second-largest international visitor market, with over 92,000 visitors arriving in the year ending March 2024. Tomorrow will also see Rex Airlines' first flights between Melbourne and Adelaide touch down in Perth. We rely heavily on air travel for visitor arrivals, so it is fantastic to be securing more aviation connections, helping our visitors to stay longer, disperse further and explore more of WA the Dream State.
Warm regards,
