Overview

Coercive control can be described as “a pattern of domination that includes tactics to isolate, degrade, exploit and control” victims. Patterns of controlling behaviour, such as stalking and harassment and psychological abuse, are known predictors of serious violence and homicide.

While Australia is in deep discussions on criminalising coercive control, the responses from practitioners to victims and men who use violence are critical in providing interruption strategies to reduce homicides and other harms across Australia and New Zealand.

The Coercive Control, Stalking and Harassment Masterclass will give you a deeper insight into the insidious presentations of FDV, Coercive Control, and Stalking and Harassment, and how these problems can co-occur. The Masterclass will also explore the impacts on victims and survivors and service system responses. We will provide you with relevant risk screening questions that assess for coercive control, physical harm, imminent risk and valuable methods to help identify cases of stalking and harassment

Delivered virtually over four hours, with micro-breaks, this Masterclass will also engage you to consider the fundamentals of stalking, risk assessment and risk management, perpetrator typologies to consider when engaging perpetrators or survivors, stages to homicide and interruption strategies, and how to provide optimal support.

This Masterclass will enable an understanding of the complexities of domestic abuse and the tools required to make informed decisions as a practitioner that validate target experiences, enhance their safety and reduce risk.

Dr Lorraine Sheridan is one of the world's leading experts in stalking. She has published five books and more than 80 papers in refereed scientific journals.

Lorraine's approach is grounded in the scientific evidence base. Lorraine also acts as an expert witness for the Justice System, and her reports are most often focussed on mental health issues, violence risk assessment, sexual offending, risk assessment in families, substance abuse, stalking, and family violence.

Lorraine brings to DART Group over 25 years of experience specialising in stalking, family violence, and threat assessment.
