Living Out Performance Excellence
Performance Excellence: Everybody, Every Day kickoff meetings are officially wrapped up. Thank you to the many of you who attended. We are so thankful for your commitment to Performance Excellence and painting an unparalleled tomorrow.
For those of you who were not able to attend and are now wondering, “What is all this talk about Performance Excellence?” — it is important to view the quick, 3-minute video below as you will be hearing more about Performance Excellence in communications and in your departments in the weeks to come. Your leaders will also be showcasing the video in your daily huddles to discuss Performance Excellence and ensure you have had the opportunity to view the video.
Lastly, we will also continue our Facebook Live conversations that stemmed from idea tickets. Houston Methodist Childbirth Center at Sugar Land invites new and expectant moms — along with their partners and babies — to our annual Community Baby Shower! You’re welcome to stop by at any time during the shower. This special event will include:
- Demonstrations on baby carrier safety
- Presentations on safe sleeping practices
- Car seat safety instructions by Sugar Land Police Department
- One-on-one breastfeeding support from lactation consultants

Welcome Community Ambassadors!
HMSL recently hosted its first successful orientation for the Community Ambassador Program. The excitement and appreciation was evident and made for a fun session. They were all able to learn about our oncology services from our physicians and are eager to serve the community.
This group makes up just half of our inaugural class of Community Ambassadors. Another orientation will take place August 23 at Noon. If you are interested in joining the team, or know someone who is, please click here to read more about it and request to join the group ahead of orientation.

Welcome Farmer's Fridge
The newly-announced Farmer's Fridge will be stocked today, Monday, August 1 and will be available for use once stocking is complete. It is located in Sweetwater, between Starbucks and Registration. Right now, you can take advantage a 50% deal just by signing up for an account, which you can do on the screen at the fridge. You can pay by card or on the app. Thank you again to everyone who made this convenient and delicious resource available to HMSL.
Your Financial Health
Your health is important, but how much thought do you give your financial health? The Fidelity financial wellness checkup will give you a score in four categories: budgeting, debt management, savings and protection. Because financial well-being can enhance your mental and physical wellness, you will earn 2,000 Virgin Pulse points just for completing the Fidelity financial wellness check-up by August 3.
Culture of Safety Awards
The System Quality and Patient Safety nomination committee is inviting nominations for the 2022 Culture of Safety Awards. This is part of Houston Methodist's dedication to quality and safety at all levels. Read more about those nominations here.

Main 4 West Patient: "This was my first stay at a hospital and also my first procedure. I would like to thank all the staff that made me feel comfortable and safe. I appreciate the chaplain stopping by even though I didn't ask for it. Prayer is always needed."
Brazos 4 Patient: "Houston Methodist Sugar Land SAVED my life! I especially commend my ICU nurse, Christie, my case manager, Venieta, and Sister Betsy, a Chaplain. These women were instrumental in my care and sense of well being."
Endoscopy Patient: "Everyone was great! I felt safe and well taken care of. The procedure itself is not great, but really who actually wants a colonoscopy? However, everyone involved in my procedure were great! I have to go back next year and now I feel tons more comfortable with it. Thank you!"
