Welcome to this edition of your Society newsletter.

In this Issue No. 8, our topic is, rather predicatably, "New Year, New You".

Regardless of how experienced we are, learning is a continuous process. And every New Year we plan ahead to make the best of our training budgets and available time.

Some colleagues have already attended IMSH in Los Angeles and we report on their experience here.

But the big news for SESAM and our members is our return to in-person and face-to-face congress in Seville in June.

SESAM ANNUAL MEETING 2022

Planning is now in full swing for the meeting in June and we are delighted to have been able to share the first of our keynote speakers for this exciting event. You can find out more and keep up to date on new announcements HERE

The Scientific Committee is extremely busy reviewing the large number of very high quality abstracts and we look forward to sharing the outcome of this with our abstract submitters through the abstract system on 18 Feburary and by email on 21 February - we wish you luck!

Our full programme will follow quickly on from this and we hope to be able to share that with you next month.

ASSOCIATION MATTERS - IMSH

Despite the challenges the pandemic threw us all in January, we were very pleased that SESAM EC was represented by Francisco Matos, President Elect; Esther Leon, Vice President and Pier Luigi Ingrassia, Secretary of SESAM.

Restrictions notwithstanding, it was a great opportunity to be back face to face with the international simulation community, and a chance to reinvigorate institutional relationships and refocus on shared goals.

Our thanks to SSH for hosting such a successful meeting in very difficult circumstances. We look forward to returning your hospitality in Seville.

MENTORING MATTERS - WINTER SCHOOL 2021

We were very happy to be able to launch our first Winter School last month and glad to have the chance to welcome our particpants from over 20 countries.

The wide ranging locations of our delegates did mean that some were joining us in high Summer rather than Winter - so we hope that didn't cause too much confusion!

While the shift to meeting virtually has certainly had challenges - the chance to bring together such a truly diverse audience to discuss our topic of the challenges of cultural differences in debriefing.

We are sincerely grateful to Janice Palaganas and Sharon Dowell for leading our Think Tank and look forward to the white paper planned from this event.

Thanks also to our amazing workshop leaders and their facilitators who so generously shared their time. Thanks to Cristina Diaz-Navarro, Stuart Rose, Sigrun Qvindesland, Walter Eppich, Katja Schalles, Michaela Kolbe, Peter Dieckmann, Carla Da Couto, Vince Grant, Michael Meguerdichian, Susan Eller, Jonathan Duff, Helen Catena, Amy Cripps, Michelle Brown and Gavin Burgess for their contribution.

It was great to see the warm and enthusiastic feedback for this inaugural event and we are very much looking forward to planning the next edition of this event.
