Issue 797 Thursday, March 21, 2024
Last Friday many outstanding Western Australian tourism businesses were recognised at the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards held in Darwin, Northern Territory. It was fantastic to see 12 WA businesses win awards, after being evaluated alongside more than 200 entrants by a panel of 32 expert judges. A special mention must go to our WA Gold winners - Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, which took out the award in the ‘Unique Accommodation’ category, and Origins Market in Busselton, which won the ‘Tourism Retail, Hire and Services’ award. A
big congratulations to all the winners, who helped visitors have an unforgettable experience in #WAtheDreamState! In another sporting events win for WA, tickets are now on sale for the British & Irish Lions Tour, which is returning to Australia in 2025. The British & Irish Lions tour has been bringing together the best rugby players from the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland to locations in the Southern Hemisphere since 1899, with the team touring Australia, New Zealand or South Africa every four years to play matches against the home nation's teams. The United Kingdom is the largest of Western Australia's 11 key international visitor
markets, with almost 20 per cent of all WA's international visitors – more than 100,000 travellers – coming from the UK in the year ending March 2023. This rugby showstopper promises to offer another great opportunity to showcase WA, ‘where dream events happen’.

2024 Sand Talk event showcases Aboriginal tourism businesses
Five Aboriginal tourism businesses came together with six inbound tourism operators to discuss international market opportunities as part of Tourism WA’s 2024 Sand Talk event in Perth this week.
