Hello and happy Monday, dearest members! I (Jarred) hope you all had a wonderful weekend and were able to get some well-deserved rest. For the most part, I had a calm and peaceful weekend after going out the last two weekends. For the most part.
You see, I was thinking of what to have for lunch yesterday, and I figured, I’d have good ol’ sausages and eggs. So I went to the freezer, which was full of frozen chook and ice cream, and pulled out the tub containing the sausages and promptly placed them in the kitchen to defrost. In our house, we’ve made a habit of reusing ice cream tubs as containers for food like fish and meat to avoid carelessly throwing away the containers. After a couple of hours passed, I was hungry. All good, since all I had left to do was quickly fry the defrosted sausages by then. With more enthusiasm than I’d like to admit, I opened the tub to find not sausages, but melted ice cream! In my haste (or carelessness, as my step mum would put it), I forgot to check whether or not I pulled out the right tub! It wasn’t really a big deal since I ended up making an omelette for lunch, but you should’ve seen my jaw
drop! An anatomical world record went undocumented in my kitchen yesterday, I tell you… Moral of the story: don’t store your frozen meat in old ice cream containers. It’ll come back to bite you.
Domestic misfortunes aside, I’d also like to share this week’s first riddle:
What word is right when pronounced wrong, but is wrong when pronounced right?
Over 350 members got last Monday’s riddle correct. Will the same number of you figure out this one? I did, but only after reading it very carefully. Don’t forget to post your answers here and get a well-deserved shout-out on Wednesday morning (yes, Wednesday, not tomorrow because we have a special newsletter edition to commemorate ANZAC Day) if you get this riddle correct!
Now, let’s find out what’s happening across the world and around Australia today, shall we?
-
It’s ANZAC Day tomorrow, and the nation will set aside time to honour Australians who sacrificed their lives for our country. That also means businesses will operate under different trading hours — so be in the know when your favourite go-tos open here!

Public holidays are as good a time as any to go out and enjoy a nice meal, but there’s a sneaky reason why you can end up paying up to 20% more for your food. How do you feel about it?
-
‘It was disgusting.’ Aussie music icon Molly Meldrum performed in a disturbing act at a recent Rod Stewart concert, and a friend has come out in support, explaining it is a trying time for the entertainer…

Long life is perhaps one of humankind’s greatest challenges. Gene therapy, cryogenics, diets — you name it, experts are probably looking into it. But did you know that the answer to this complex problem might just be in your pantry right now?
-
A lot can change over a decade — just ask this mum who stumbled upon a grocery find from 2011 and came to a ‘shocking’ realisation.
-
A ‘DIY influencer’ took part in a recent online furniture challenge, and her ‘innovative’ $70 creation has the internet split. Is this the worst ‘hack’ ever?
-
Heads-up: a major change is coming to some of Australia’s most beloved chocolate brands, and it’s a world first! Could your favourite be involved?
-
Speaking of chocolate, renowned Aussie chocolatier Darrell Lea has teamed up with a well-known dessert brand and produced two delectably mouthwatering new flavours. Are you ready for this match made in chocolate heaven?
-
Ah, it’s final. Australia will be seeing the last of two beloved McCafe classics — but don’t worry, four limited-edition items are taking their place! Get a load of the latest menu shakeup at Macca’s here!

There’s a new standard in town — at least, for drivers! The Federal government recently announced changes to make Australia a more environmentally friendly nation. Are you on board with these?

Today’s blast from the past is something that’s an odd mix of past and present, partly because some of you might be seeing something similar later today — or already have, even. This photograph, taken at a Sydney market stall in 1958, shows passersby and a row of flowers, including poppies. At the centre, we can see a lovely lady buying a bouquet. Who knows, it might also have been for ANZAC Day as well! Do you remember how ANZAC Day was observed in your younger days? How is it compared to today? Tell us your thoughts in the forum! And if you have similar photographs and memories of days gone by, feel free to post on our Nostalgia/Yesterday’s Australia forum and reminisce about the good ol’ days.
