2023 'Salute to Nurses' Honorees
Nine nurses at Houston Methodist Sugar Land are being recognized as the best in Houston on Houston Chronicle's 2023 'Salute to Nurses' list. Not only did nine nurses make the annual list, but two of them are Top 15 winners. Those being honored are: Christine Reid, Maria Cuesta (Top 15), Betty Gonzales, Gilbert Barrera, Jennifer Sy, Joy Yuan Fey (Top 15), Heather Rodriguez, Marieta Rasco and VP/CNO Janet Leatherwood. 25th Anniversary Celebration
Our 25th Anniversary Celebration is just around the corner! The event starts promptly at 4:00 p.m. and speeches begin at 4:30 p.m. You will hear remarks from CEO Chris Siebenaler, CNO Janet Leatherwood and system CEO Dr. Marc Boom. Please RSVP via this link by Friday, April 21 if you think you can make it on Friday, April 28. This will help us plan properly as food will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, an RSVP is not required to attend. We look forward to seeing you!

The deadline to sign up for Houston Methodist Family Fun Day wrist bands is Friday, April 21. The event, featuring Stevie Wonder and Disney Junior Live, will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 6, at NRG Stadium. Click here to register and for more details. Successful HMSL Employee Fair
The Spring 2023 HMSL Employee Fair was a smash hit! Thank you to all staff who stopped by. We hope it was a fun way to spend time with your co-workers, while reconnecting with others across the hospital. Thank you to the teams from Neuroscience & Spine Center, Food and Nutrition, Clinical Education, Performance Excellence, Employee Wellness, Magnet Champions and Strategic Partnerships for sharing helpful resources and information with staff. Celebrating Arab Heritage
April is National Arab American Heritage Month. It honors the contributions of Arab Americans throughout society. The Arab Heritage ERG is hosting a virtual discussion highlighting one physician's journey from Lebanon to the U.S. Click here for event details.
Nurse Manager Promotion

22 Nurses Promoted to RN III
HSML is excited to announce 22 Registered Nurses were recently promoted to RN III as part of the clinical career path. The RNs applied, provided documentation and were interviewed individually by the Clinical Career Path Committee. Click here to see who was promoted.
Houston Methodist Receives SLB Appreciation Award
Houston Methodist was recently recognized by SLB (formerly Schlumberger) for its exceptional support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to caring for employees and providing onsite PCR testing at multiple locations, Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services Medical Director, Dr. Victor Fainstein, provided expert guidance to SLB’s global crisis response team, supporting their efforts to create a safer environment for their essential workers. The longstanding partnership with SLB was established through Houston Methodist Employer Health Solutions. Awards were presented to Dr. Victor Fainstein, Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital (accepted by Chris Siebenaler), Brett Brosseau and Collin Ratcliff.

HealthyDirections+ Fair
The HealthyDirections+ program provides resources and support for your mental, physical and financial well-being -- with the opportunity to earn rewards at the same time. HR Hub staff members are hosting a fair in Brazos Conference Center Tuesday, April 18 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fair vendors include Virgin Pulse, Fidelity and Employee Wellness. Stop by with your questions and learn new things the program offers.
System Safety Symposium
The 2023 Patient Safety Symposium will be held Friday, April 28 at 9 a.m. at the Westin Houston Medical Center. This year's theme is 'High Reliability'. Continuing education credits for physicians, nurses and pharmacists will be offered. You can also attend via Zoom. Topics include: managing risk vs taking risk, the rhythm of reliability and finding joy in and at work. Click here to register for the event.
The third week in April is neurodiagnostics week. While the department is small, it is essential here at HMSL. Our neurodiagnostic technologists conduct EEGs to record electrical activity of the brain and nervous system. They also work to help patients identify patterns that could be contributing to life-threatening conditions like epilepsy. Click here to read about others celebrating this month.

Childbirth Center Patient: "Chelsea, the labor and delivery nurse, and Rose, the post partum care nurse, were amazing! You are lucky to have these ladies working for you. I would have all my babies here."
Breast Center Patient: "The staff at the front desk on the day I visited the Breast Center for my mammogram was AWESOME! I arrived on the incorrect date, however they tried to fit me in but my work schedule didn't allow. I returned the following day, which was my actual appointment. They were so nice and welcoming. We got a laugh out of my mix-up of dates. I was seen right away. My registration tech/nurse was an absolute delight. I will always have my mammogram exam at the Sugar Land location."
Main 5 East Patient: "Everyone in the hospital was very friendly, helpful and informative. When my children heard I was in the hospital, they came from Bryan, Sargent, Clute and Richmond. They were so impressed with the hospital. They said they were going to tell everybody and recommend it to them, and said they won't be sorry."
